Nate, Jason thanks for joining the fun. Super work from both of you, I'm particularly fond of Variscite as I do like the strong green color in a gemmy piece like that. Stu, you got your work cut out with this piece. Its huge and 7 inside curves? That's a challenge for anyone. On top of that, you are going to touch soft rind areas in either outline. If asked, I would say the first outline gives a better picture, but is also more challenging.

Kurt you have brought up some very good points that I as a nube did not think of. I think I will have to re think my design or even perhaps the choice in slab. Stu

Amy, Roy, & Jason: What beautiful cabs. I love the variety being posted!
Stu, if you really wanna cab that whole slab, grab it and start grinding. Let the rock tell you how it wants to be shaped.

Well after considerable thought and contemplation which was inspired by Kurt (KK) I started too think that maybe I might have cut off a bit more than I can chew. Kurt brought my attention to some very to certain aspects of my proposed cab that I being a nube didn't even think of. It was this type of opportunity to learn from others that inspired me to enter the contest in the first place. Thanks Kurt!! So in the spirit of furthering my knowledge I say, what the heck. If I am going to fall on my face I couldn't think of a better place to do so than before the eyes of some of the most talented people I have had the pleasure to have been exposed to. So if I should fall on my face perhaps some of you masters will take pity on this nube with some constructive critique. Preform pictures both sides: Just a thought is it possible to make a double sided cab?

Stu, you are far from falling on your face. Looks great, love the layout. Just one thing, pay attention to equal length on the two sides on top when you create you dome. Unfortunately I messed up a lot of material because it was off a little and hence never looked right. Such Geometric shapes can sometimes be harder to do than rounded ones. But in the end, just have fun with the process, I was at your starting-line just a bit over a year ago.
Wow Don, that shine looks too hot to handle. 100K is hard to get here ands when I do see it, I usually don't have the spare money for it. Super material and fantastic work overall.
Curt, our name is rare enough to be easily remembered outside central Europe. Would be fun watching someone introducing us in person. LOL

WOW Don! Gorgeous! What medium do you use your 100k on, the shine is out of this world! Thanks Krystee! I don't usually use this technique on my cabs because it's so labor intensive, but I needed to bring my "A" game for this contest LOL! I use diamond belts on expando drums through 1200 grit and then diamond paste worked with a soft bristle brush on a mandrel for grits 3000-100k.
