Since I got my new camera I have been trying to get birds to co-operate with me. This is the best I've done so far. All were taken in or from my yard. Great Blue Heron Two Types Of Juncos Moking Bird Red-Bellied Woodpecker Sparrow Chickadee Cardinal Curt

I can't imagine a more cooperative bird than the one in the 1st picture. That picture looks as if it came out of Natiional Geographic. Great shot. By the way what kind of camer did you get? Stu

Cool pix! Those chickadees are fun lil guys. I had one land on my hand when I was up in my stand deer hunting last fall. Had a nice lil chat with him too before he flew off LOL.

Beautiful birds! Curt, those shots look to be of professional quality to me, perfect lighting and crisp focus.

Great photos Curt. You must have a very long lens and a tripod.

Thanks guys for the very nice comments!
Stu I bought a Canon Rebel T3i. It's about as good as it gets before going into the Pro cameras and spending thousands.
Nate I love Chickadees too! They are such cute little boogers, very friendly and very tiny.
Bill Thank you very much but they are hardly professional. I like to think they are decent for a rank amateur.
Chuck I only have a 250mm max lens. I thought when I purchased it, it would be adequate. Boy was I wrong. Most birds are small and even with 250mm you have to be very close to them. I do have a tripod but all these pics are handheld.
Thanks again guys. I'm having a ball!

Nice job, I'm not stable enough to get that high quality capture without a tripod. Really like that Heron, been trying to capture the pair living in our cove but so far no joy.

I know what you mean about 250mm being too short. I've got a 300mm which was too short on 35mm film, but at 450mm (equivalent) on my dslr it's getting better. How much did you crop the photos?
You do have a steady hand.

Wow Chuck, wish I had a 450mm! The Heron was a huge crop. It was across the lake from me. The rest I got close enough that I only had to crop a little. I'd say they range from 10-50% crop with the Heron a 100% crop.

Well, Curt, when I put the doubler on it, it goes to 900mm (but a slow f8). ;D
I'm amazed the song birds let you get that close. That's great! No need for a longer lens when you can get that close.
