I haven't done human figures in a couple of years, so decided that I should probably do some to not lose my perspectives. Thought I'd share them here, since I don't have any rocks to share right now:P. I made both of these as pendants instead of sculptures, tho the sitting one is a bit heavy to actually wear, since I got a little carried away with glass (it's challenging to make tiny human torsos) . The reason they don't have arms and head is mostly practical... in this size, the arms and neck would be too thin, and be a higher breaking risk. I usually don't do legs either, just to the knees for the same reason, but mermaids have to have a tail, and structurally they should be OK due to location. Hope you like looking at them, it's something different:). Profile (this one's swimming)

So, this is why the sailors were crazy about them ... ;D
Beautiful mermaids, I like how you made the scales on the tail on the standing one.

And thank you guys:)! I had fun making them, haven't done figures in a while. Women are much easier than sculpting men... men have a TON of muscle groups that are hard to work.

hahahaha now you are getting nasty talking about men's muscle groups and hard to work. Beautiful pieces Helen but some women may take offense because they are portrayed as all boobs and no brain. lol Now I am going to get into trouble. They both have flat stomachs which is the sexiest part of a woman.
I love your work and I am trying to come up with something to trade for one of your pieces. Maybe I will have to start carving again since you do not wear rings. Or I could pose for you since I do not have any muscle groups that show on my chest. But the hairy boobs may be tough to duplicate. lol Jim

LOL! Jim, you guys and the boobs!!! I think that's so funny... because I don't think those boobs are that big! BIG boobs are like double D's or something, and some crazy women actually PAY to get them!! Those are somewhere between a C and a D cup, and they are not unnatural proportions!!
It's funny when I carve a figure that I always end up with that shape. I guess that's what I think a normal female shape is. What's interesting is that every woman I know who carve female figures have a very specific shape they always do... big or small boobs, big or small butt, thick or thin waist, etc. I have a glass artist friend who does female shapes... that ALWAYS have these very particular unusual thigh and butt fat placement in exactly the same spots on every one of her figures. Never deviates on shape. Then I realized... I do the same thing! LOL!

Hey, another boro glassworker! I did boro work for about 7 years before I had to give it up. I like your mermaids. I did mermaids, too. (I always gave them healthy assets, too- they are sirens after all. ;D) Boro got me into wirewrapping and the rest is history. I miss it a lot, though. I still have my shop, packed up in totes along with about 50lbs of color and 2 cases clear. I have some Gilson left, too. Maybe one day one of the kids will show some interest.... Thanks for sharing- those are quite nice.

Those are fantastic creations! What a great imagination with form and colors swirling in perfect pattern. They look like something out of one of the fantasy fiction books I read!
