Thanks for the updates, friends! We're test tumbling about 16 pounds of Blue G in one of our Gy-roc vibrating tumbler. to save bucks, we used 40/80 coal slag to clean the sawed trim bits and cut offs (muddy, very rough edged material), then 2 hours in 80 grit SiC and the edges of the angular pieces have just begun to round off ... Blue G is TOUGH!!! We're setting up our carving wheels today, and will be working on adding some bold touches to the Blue G cab run we're roughing out. It take a TON of cab blanks to fill a Model C Gy-roc bowl! Keep up the good stuff, friends! Kris

Hi, carvers!!!! Any updates?
After the long Labor Day weekend we're ready to step up to 500 grit in our first Blue G tumbling run. So far, it all looks good, with various surface effects occuring in various grades. We're posting detailed updates on this in the Tumbling section.
One thing that we've noticed in cutting is a tendancy for the more patterned (mossy & dendritic) material to appear to be undercutting. This usually resolves when you get to 600 grit, and the polish starts to develop. In final polishing of this grade of Blue G, we tend to stop at a softer polish than many cutters prefer. IOHO, the color contrast and patterns are more attractive without the harder reflections.
We look forward to seeing more of your work!
Kris

Here's my piece. You're right about the mossy dendritic material, I thought it was undercutting, and redid it a couple of times, and I honestly wasn't taken by my cab, until I wrapped it in copper! Then, wow, it brought out the very unique blue of Blue G! Love it!! It was easy to work, and I rather like the softer finish I got. I have to admit, until I read your other threads, I thought it was granite. And well, granite is countertops, not jewelry in my mind. I wonder if others will jump to the same conclusion? I'd like to suggest a name change! It's tough as a mudder, and it's got that wonderful unique blue, like denim. How about 'Panoche Indigo' or something like that? Thanks for letting me try it out!!

Here's my first efforts with Blue G.
Set 1 involves Blue G and Wyoming Jade (from Jim). The perfect round ring was made by Jim. Very nice!
Hmmm, where did my photos go?
I clicked all the IMG codes in Photobucket. Everything has to be somewhere!

OK. Figured it out. 1 - is set 1. Thr perfect ring under the nail was made by Jim/wampidy. The three above the nail are Blue G, Wyoming Jade and Blue G. 2- is after I tried to make them thinner by running them through the trim saw. Not a good idea! 3- is set 2 : shows preforms of blue lace agate, Blue G, and Wyoming Jade. 4 they are all finished. I've worn them all, and so far nothing has broken. All took a good polish and were a pleasure to work with 5 is the finished Blue G. Took it up to 14,000. I look forward to the next set, as I can see some unevenness in all of the above. Also want to try 50,000 and 100,000 diamond paste on them. Thanks for looking.

Thanks, Pat! The most heartbreaking lessons are the ones from which we learn the most. Can't wait to see your rings in the sunshine! Dianne, we're stoked that you're doing a large format sculpture! We look forward to displaying it alongside Scott's Blue G spheres! My sweetheart Laura says, "What, no pictures? Please, post in-progress photos if you can." Great work, friends! We're so excited! Regards, Kris

Holey Hetta Hooper in a Howling Hurricane, Susan!
We knew your design was gonna look great, but the level of work has us whistling as we happily slab more dreamy "robin's egg" Blue G!
We can't wait to see your next creation, this one will be posted to our Customer Creations page tonight!
Ciao!
Kris
