WHAT THE HECK! Susan where did you come from?? The last time I paid attention you were just getting started (I thought?) and you pulled this off?
That is fantastic, really well done and very cool!
(Forgive me if you have been doing this forever and I just didn't realize that)

Thanks John! Yeah, you're right, I did just start. Bought my Ameritool in May or June I think. :-) So, yeah, this sort of represents the journey between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Lots and lots of hours at the lap, and a whole bunch of cabs in the trash bin. ;-) And there is so much information on here, it saves lots of false starts. And I have a mentor who has been super mega helpful too. ;-) These "Triangle Cabs" are my new interest. I can't wait to do this with Carleton's Labradorite. I also have another BlueG triangle style that I'm working on, but I'm having glue issues so it's delayed.

Best to take it easy, get well and move ahead when you can. Chronic health challenges have been with me all of my life, and my key (mostly) has been to stay in bed when needed, and don't spend energy being angry. You're a valued friend, Jim, and my thoughts are on your timely recovery. As we tell fellow rockhounds who are aggrieved at missing our field trips because of life challenges, "the rocks will be there when you're ready for them." Rest, do what it takes, and remember that you have a multitude of friends who know your true strength; your open and generous soul. Be well, sir! Kris

Anything new, Blue G carvers? We've been windowing lots of Blue G nodules, and have started to make knife scale blanks. The first sets were in the classic Blue Granite pattern, with a sharp nearly neon blue. They should be very dramatic, and we'll leave it to the artisan to reveal themselves on RTH. Any figurative carvings in the works? Cheers! Kris

So sorry Kris, I have had health issues myself and am just in the last three days able to get up and around. I have started my carving though but it is not yet complete.

have not abandoned the carving but my carving area is getting a face lift as hubby does not like my bucket system anymore. He says its time to get a better system so that said he is making me a station that will have a fixed motor for small wheel arbor/bit chuck all in one for a stationary bit and wheel to carve with. I will be sitting pretty with this and my fordom! It will make things go a bit faster and smoother

Sorry to hear that Kris and Tammy. I hope things will smooth out for you.
The VA has offered to do the steroid injections in my lower back right when there are people dieing from the procedure. I fired off a lot of questions in a very short period of time. I have been assured that it is now safe and none of the bad stuff was used in Wyoming. I agreed because living the way I am is just not worth it so fire away. There is just a small ways to go down but a long way to go up. It would be really nice to get off all of the meds also. They are a huge pain in the butt for what little relief they give.
I have figured out what I am going to do with mine but all I can say is that it will be an abstract. I tried a little figure carving of some hard stone with the dremel and it did not go so well. ;D ;D Plus I am already working on something that has a lot of detail and I am crazy enough without adding to it. Thanks for the updates, my friends. Jim, abstract sounds cool! I remember the piece you received, and I'm looking forward to seeing what visual effects you come up with. Sorry to hear that you're having to undergo injections, but better that than the knife. My partner Al has been snowed under in his biz, and I'm catching up with something all the time right now ... I miss his energy! Everyone else, please post some photos or something ... the suspense is killing me! We're waiting impatiently for the GIA report, and the bill! :cheesy: We sent our best ever, and some of the Delft blue ... The waiting is soooo hard! Later! Kris

Thanks for the info, that is very great news!
as for the carving, I'm delayed due to the revamping of my carving station and the fact that its too cold right now in the shop
I will get a picture when it looks like something more than a lump

Kris, thanks for the update. Since I've never seen a GIA report, I need some information. Why are you calling it rare? Why are you calling it GEM Lawsonite? Thanks.

Kris, thanks for the update. Since I've never seen a GIA report, I need some information. Why are you calling it rare? Why are you calling it GEM Lawsonite? Thanks. Pat, Thanks for requesting clarification on my post of late last night. I'm sure that by now you've read the pdf announcement that was sent to all of our online patrons last night. However, I'll answer your questions here as briefly as possible. The "truly rare" comment is not like eBay "RARE!!!!!". It's an accurate description of an unusual and stable occurrence of gem rock of which the major mineral is Lawsonite. Lawsonite, as you can read at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawsonite, is a widespread mineral, but not in a gem suitable form. Lawsonite, in general, metamorphoses to Anorthite through dehydration in the near/surface environment. It's only in the last few years that Lawsonite has been commercially available as collector quality specimens, and only from a handful of obscure localities. I've spent 3 full days of the week since receiving electronic confirmation of the GIA Identification Report in comprehensive searches of online reports, literature and postings, and have been unable to find a single photo, report or sales of anything that could be considered gem grade Lawsonite. At one of the commercial specimen collectors sites, one photo of a faceted stone was shown, and it certainly was not of jewelry grade. It also was not available for sale! That was it for Lawsonite as a cut stone. No reported instances of massive gem material were noted in any form, prior to the GIA confirmation of our material. An online search for Lawsonite specimens will find a very limited supply, with average prices in the 3 to 4 figure range, with no availability of attractive gem material other than our Panoche Hills Gem Lawsonite. Now, I happily plead guilty to referring to Gem Lawsonite as "rare" in my excitement last evening. Getting the GIA Cert was like having my child graduate from school, ready to go out into the world and find its way. I can happily say that you won't see us use that word in our ongoing sales, since it's become the most overused cliche in online sales. Indeed, there's no need to tout it in our sales as rare, since eBay had exactly two (2) listings for Lawsonite. It's that unusual as a specimen. Why not keep using "Blue G"? The reason for the name change is the nature of the material, since it occurs in a multitude of color variations. Blue G will now refer to the style that looks like blue granite, except better! Thanks for the straight to the point questions, Pat! Kris PS: For those who might worry about prices heading for the clouds; don't worry. Yes, it's unusual and perhaps even unique in occurrence, but there's going to be an adequate supply for many years to come. We'll maintain reasonable prices, since we want lapidaries to enjoy our rock!
