Picked up a bunch of this yesterday in Wyoming. First cut is nice and dark and seems really stable!

Beautiful cut, most of the snails are cut lengthwise.

That is a nice black one. With turritella, the darker the background the better. Also looks like you know the secret of cutting parallel to the top and bottom of the vein so most the shells are oriented lengthwise. A lot of folks go for more slabs and slice it perpendicular to the way the snails lay so the slabs show cuts across all the whorls. I think the snails are prettier cut lengthwise....Mel

Hey Clyde,
I've taken rocks to scout meetings, but haven't taken the boys out to anywhere looking for rocks as a group - just my guy (you can see him in my trip reports).
We're moving to a new pack this year so we'll see if something works out.

That's a nice looking slab, I really like cabbing this stuff but the slabs I have bought have been unstable at the trim saw. I probably lost as many as I kept due to breakage. Yours looks nice and tight though.

Nice slab John.Like Mel said The darker(blacker agate) is the best..Tumbles and cabs shine like glass...Chuck When you get them avoid the brownish colored turitella.I have some of both and the brown is ok but not great....John

Looks good. You shouldn't have problems with the material you show. Polished some a while back and they did well. jeff

I've made some cabs with turritella and it polishes to a very nice shine. You will like the results!

That is a nice one. Where is a good collecting site? I have found little success following gem trail books. I wanted to collect some last January, but after the disater I had at the border, I just shot straight through to Q.

Nice slab! You've got some great shell patterns in there! I love the stuff too, shines beautifully.
