Howdy folks,
You know, some times life is kind of funny. Two or three times a week on get on a psychotic horse for several hours, He routinely tries to bite or kick me, buck me off, throw me by hopping sideways etc. I hike all over heck clearing trails by myself, chase snakes all over the ranch etc. So Saturday, I was working on a dead tree marking project. Stepped out of my jeep into a dang hole and traumatically supinated my dang foot snapping a couple of ligaments and probably bones in the process. Went to the doctor who explained there is not too much to do for it except watch it a bit to see if looks like I need a cast and see if the thing heals. Don't want a cast cause it won't fit in a stirrup but one stupid step out of a stationary car and now I have to limp around for weeks *sigh*, Crap!......Mel

A sure sign we're all getting older... it takes so much longer to heal! Get better, Mel. And like Jo says, listen to the doc! Jean

Mel, hope you heal up fast. Maybe the moral of the story is not to worry about the psychotic horses or the snakes and look out for innocent looking holes that eat feet...LOL.

Hey Mel, they make extra wide boot stirrups. You know, the kind that will fit Sorels.

The pain really sucks but look on the bright side. If you can hobble out to your rock machine and sit down it might make it feel a lot better. And it will keep you there long enough to get lots done. Hope ya heal fast my friend. Jim

We can probably design some kind of a chute that runs under your rock machine table to hold your foot elevated while you work. Hey, hope it has not gotten as big as a watermelon over night. Sure sign of breakage. And that can be 8 weeks on crutches. Not a fun time and I am telling you this from experience. Let me know if you need anything like a pineapple up-side-down cake or anything else that will take your mind off of it. Need rocks I got um, only three days away. Hell, for three squares I would probably go down there and chase some of those snakes for you, All I would need is a really really long forked stick.
Take care Jim

Thanks for all the expressions of sympathy folks. You guys are all swell. I get pretty depressed when I get injured as I'm one of those people that has a hard time holding still. I've been icing the foot up good several times per day and bought me a good pair of tactical boots to lace it into. It seems to be improving a bit and I can stand fairly well and hobble at a pretty good pace. I'm gonna baby it as far as heavy hiking goes but I think I'll be able to ride Hopper at the horse clinic tomorrow morning. He really needs the training so I hate to miss a class. Have rides on Friday and Sunday too so I'll be able to see how functional the foot is. I agree with Helen for a change and so does my doctor. He seems to think all the crunching was just ligaments and not broken bones.. I've broken both feet in the past (volleyball and racquet ball *L*) and both those times the swelling was much worse and the foot turned black and blue so hopefully I'll heal up pretty fast with just the ligament damage.......Mel
