52% of the people in this country think we are headed in the wrong direction. Yet today we have the same President, the same Senate, the same House.

52% of the people in this country think we are headed in the wrong direction. Yet today we have the same President, the same Senate, the same House. Curt My sincere apologies to hammers........ The election is finally over and it's time to move ahead. Here are my comments in another forum on which I participate: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I guess no one has started anything on this topic yet because you are either in mourning, on the way to Canada or still asleep. Yep, he won, and rather convincingly. Hurricane Sandy helped him enormously as did the last 10 days or so of him reaching for Republicans. He looked and acted presidential. He related to the common folk much more than did Romney. I said early on that, despite of political differences that he was the type of PERSON that I could have a beer with, and that translated to the rest of the country as well. The GOP is rapidly becoming a dying party. They HAVE to make a bold effort to draw in the Hispanic vote and do it soon, if it isn't already too late. The GOP is currently old people, churchgoers. Tea Party (many of the same type as just mentioned) and the like and very little more. They must make a serious effort to change and they need to do it now. They don't have anyone to lead the party so someone needs to step up. It should be Rubio as that would kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. Why do I have this attitude of acquiescense? Because most of us who are retired military fall in line and say yessir, yessir two bags full. That's what we were taught to do. We may not like it but that's the way it is. We'll bitch a little and then keep on marching. The good thing is that the election is over and we don't have to put up with it for another two years. I hope by that time the GOP is viable.

It does defy logic, the exit polling suggests that blaming Bush for the state of the economy actually worked. Half of those voters said they blame former President George W. Bush for the poor economy more than Barack Obama, poll results said.
Sixty percent of voters told pollsters they were most concerned about the economy. That number is down only two percent from exit polls conducted during the 2008 election, held less than two months after the economy cratered.
He is the first incumbent president to win re-election with less of a margin then their first election. He is going to have fun trying to deal with the members of the house and senate that he has been trashing for months, as most have retained their seats. And after the nasty and mean spirited campaign, falsely accusing Romney and Ryan of everything from hating women to being felons, I think it safe to say that about half of the country is in no mood for compromise (to put it mildly), as to compromise with liberals means that we must agree with them. He won by going small and nasty, and one reaps what one sows.
The main take-away for me is the relization that we have reached the point where we seem to be about to see the fruition of the saying "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy. "
On the bright side, he has four years to show us how to get golden eggs from a cooked goose.

You are a genius Ed. You put a page full of intelligence into 13 words.
I am taking all rock bets to ring bets that this country will not be in worse shape at the end of two and four years.
Where are you Curt? We had a bet if you remember. I really do not want to go back and find it so I am letting you off the hook.
You have to see the humor, Bush voted for Obama. That is sssoooo f..... hilarious. Jim

Jim, sorry to spoil your fun, but . . . Did Bush accidentally vote for Obama? Not quite 15 hrs ago Remember when George W. Bush was president, and political comedians were able to get an infinite amount of material from mocking his missteps and slip-ups? Apparently, even though the Bush presidency is long over, the Internet jokesters at the Daily Currant have gone retro on us and released a bumbling Dubya hoax that seems to have come straight from 2004. The parody news source claimed that Bush became confused by the electronic voting machine and accidentally cast a vote for Obama, in spite of his requests that election officials give him a redo. In spite of the story's fictional Bush quotes, such as "everything was mismaladjusted on the screen," the spoof story still fooled The Daily Kos and numerous smaller blogs. Sorry guys, you're going to have to dig a little deeper to get your Bush bashing fix this time. now.msn.com/report-that-bush-voted-for-obama-by-accident-is-a-hoaxJim, as an aside, I agree that Ed has expressed a nice sentiment. I ask you: would you feel the same if last night turned out differently? Bill

There is one thing that I would like to add. There is absolutely no reason for us to be the strongest offensive country in the world if we are the strongest defensive country in the world. If we stop getting into wars like Iraq and focus on compromise and a very strong defense we would have nothing to worry about and we would have money in our pockets. Israelites have always sought the best defense as the best offense. They are not starting wars all over the world but they have an awesome defense. Whoever attacks them will be annihilated without our help Jim

I agree with you on the wars Jim. So let's spend all our money on failing companies instead of wars.
!6 trillion in debt today. 20 or more trillion in 4 years. Yep, we're headed in the right direction now.
I remember the bet and you will get your slabs. PM me your address.

If anything at all good comes of this next 4 years, Maybe we'll finally find out the truth about Fast and Furious, and Benghazi. I doubt it, but maybe, just maybe the truth will come out now that Obama has stolen another 4 years.
What remains to be seen is, will Obama still be in power 4 years from now ? When some of the truths start to surface, I suspect that he will face impeachment and expulsion from his perch high on his pedestal. Only time, Harry Reed and Nancy Pelosi will tell.

As far as the 4 years on whether or not we will be worse off - I say you are right, Jim except that it will not be 4 years that we will be worse off, it will be less! As far as Obama still being in power? There are a lot of desperate people out there, some of them not too stable. As things continue their downward trend there is no telling what will happen as they start to crack. I wonder if Obama will make it that long?

sheltie, you got that right!
I been thinking on this. Haven't formulated a concise thesis, yet,
But I think only George Bush can rescue the tattered Republicans. Its been a disgrace that in the past 2 elections the Republican have had to hide the George Bush presidency. Unfortunately, for good reasons!. But they cant' keep running from it
In the next couple years Bush needs to make some sort of statement. Apologetic is not his style. But he’s going to have to eat some crow. He needs to give some sort of explanation. Only that is going to give the Republican legitimacy again.

It's been a slog since the Republicans took control of the House, and it will continue to be a slog, but we're still recovering. I'm glad we skirted another war to profit Romney. The hope that we could get a quickly functional government is pretty shot with the re-election of Ryan, Boener and Cantor, but at least it won't get worse:).

Sad news for the nation I think, and not a testimonial to the brilliance of the average American voter. While now that it's been proven you can buy an election with freebies and lies, and with this in play, we'll probably never have another Republican president in my lifetime, especially after Obama legalizes all the illegals to vote Democratic, I prefer to look on the bright side of this election. First off we should come up with a new name for the nation, something like the Socialist States of FUBAR and make the capitol of Commiefornia it's capitol. I blame that state most of all because it's just soooo fracking Commie and has all those electoral votes *L*. So glad I moved to Texas which is still part of America ( for now at least). Was heading to the range this morning to work off post election blues and I came upon one of my neighbors burning his American flags. I do not agree with flag burning but this old vet's statement to me was, he'll no longer fly the flag of a nation that is not the America he grew up with. Much different and much worse than the one I grew up with too.
Secondly the guy that got elected has to deal with the steaming pile of doody the guy that was president for the last four years flopped out. Mitt seems like a nice guy and I was kinda feeling sorry for him if he had to deal with the mess Obama left behind. Seems fitting Obama should have to shovel up his own doody. Hope he does much better than I think he will *L*. Wonder if the Dems four years from now will still be blaming things on Bush?
Thirdly, think of the entertainment we'll all have as each of Obama's new lies is exposed. Lots of stuff for us to discuss in the future. Though I doubt, now that he won, we'll ever get the truth of Benghazi or Fast and Furious. Narcissist megalomanics overall are fun to watch. Obama does not have to play nice with America any more as he no longer has to worry about re election so pop some popcorn and find a comfortable seat folks. The show is about to begin.
Fourth: Going to be real fun watching the folks that voted for this incompetent stew in their own juices. Stock market is already reacting and them public employees 401ks are going down. Most the new crap Obama is dumping on the American public comes after the election so wait till those bombs drop and wait till the folks who voted for him realize you can't pay the bills by raising taxes only on the rich. All you dumbass kids that voted Obama without ever being out in the working world, I'll laugh my ass off when you guys get the 20 trillion dollar bill in a few years. It ain't us oldies who will suffer all that much. We've already got our money. It's you youngsters and your kids that have your turn in the barrel next *L*.
Fifth: I've been thinking about learning Chinese. Probably a good incentive to learn now cause when they decide not to loan us any more money, we go in the tank and they pretty much own us.
And lastly and bestly; Maybe now we 'll have a break from all the bullsh*t posters from work Helen was always posting. Your side won, America lost. Give it a rest already Helen *L*.....Mel
PS: Jim: I agree with your anti war stance and I think a lot of soldiers are ready to come home and that's why half voted for Obama. However, the old saw " The best defense is a good offense." still holds true and you know what they say about radical Muslims. ' If they quit attacking, we'd have peace. If we quit attacking them we'd have war." Weakness emboldens them and makes them think we are ripe for attack. To ignore that is just plain stupid. Unfortunately, the war against terror will probably never end and I suspect Obama will have to face armed conflicts in the next four years. Sometimes, there is simply no choice in the matter.
