Hi folks. I know this is off topic for this board, but while the 'life, universe and everything' board continues to be thrashed by polical trolls I'm going to post this here.
Late Friday night the phone rang and I woke up thinking this can't be good. It wasn't. It was my mom calling, and as soon as I picked it up my cell phone rang with my ex wife calling. They both told me that my daughter Shasta was in a terrible car crash and had broken her neck and was in a Las Vegas trauma center. There was very little information available other than she was an unrestrained back seat passenger that had been ejected from the vehicle at highway speeds. We left for Las Vegas and made the 5 1/2 hour trip in 4 hours. My thinking was if we were pulled over for speeding the officer would understand and escort us the rest of the way. When we reached the hospital she was in they were doing scans and we had to wait to see her. We found out her best friend and her were in the back seat of the car without seat belts while her friend's Mother was driving. Her friend's father was the passenger up front and they were both wearing seat belts. The left front tire blew as they were driving down the freeway. They hit the embankment at about 70 mph and flipped. both girls were thrown from the car. Both girls were medi-vac'd to the trauma center in las vegas.
Thank God Shasta's broken neck is fractured vertebrae that didn't go deep as her spinal column and she just has to wear a brace the next 3 months. She had bleeding on her brain but it was minimal and stopped. She had to have her scalp and left knee stapled. Man head to toe she was a mess with lacerations and road rash.. but she's going to be OK. It looks like she is going to be released tomorrow night.. her mom is there with her right now.
Thanks for reading this.. I've been out of my mind for the last few days. Here's a picture of my baby showing a nice piece of pet wood she found on one of our trips in 2007
