I will lead a group back into the hills behind Brenda, AZ on Friday, Jan 25th! We will meet in Brenda at 10am 8:30am at a location to be announcedBlack Rock Cafe. Diane and I will scout out the area early in the month in hopes to provide you with some awesome rock! We will need 4 wheel drives and quads if possible! Sign up here so we know how many are going, what vehicles and how many people each vehicle can carry! I spoke with Jamie (desertdweller) yesterday about this area and she has pointed me in a great direction. I know she has found some wonderful rock back there. She will go if possible but she is quite busy in January!! So, here it is........the RTH Quartzite Rockhunt on Jan 25th at 10am!!

Sheri,
My wife and I would like to join y'all. It sounds like staying in Brenda was a stroke of luck for me. We have a Jeep, no quads.
Regards,
Denny (sheltie)

Ok, I will start a list! We will be hunting most of the day so bring a sack lunch, rock hammer and rock bags. Buckets are bulky and heavy. Back packs and canvas bags are easier to carry and you can drag them if they get to heavy. I hook my hammer into the handles and drag the bag! LOL

Also, for those of you that want to hunt more spots, just let me know! There are some closer to Phoenix on the far west side and several spots off of Hwy 60 all the way to Wickenburg! We have a lot of different rock available in the area from Phoenix to Quartzite! Just let me know and I will take you there or direct you there if I can't go!! My house is open if anyone needs a place to camp or park. I cant host anyone in the house, my stepson will be here from college. I live very close to a few hunting spots. There is an RV park right accross the street from me if you have an RV! I live right on Hwy 60 so I am VERY easy to find!! I will however host a bbq around a fire if there is a want for it. My front area is very large!

Who wants a second trip? It will be closer to Phoenix but WELL worth the trip! All kinds of agates and jaspers. You have seen me post the finds before! It is the Dixie Peak agates. For those of you that want to look it up, it is due south of Tonapah, Arizona. Just let me know and I will schedule a day!! Maybe some can carpool, just leave TONS of room for the rock!!

All it takes is one person Chris, you won't be disappointed, I can promise you that! It is the best hunting spot I know of in the state! Agate everywhere, you don't even have to work for it! Just pick it up!! Others will be sad for not going when the see you post what you got!

I knew I'd seen a thread about a field trip to Brenda, but couldn't find it. Thanks for bringing it up again. Still not certain if we're going to make it this year, but definitely going to try! If we do go, it'll be for the entire week of the PowWow. We have a four wheel drive truck, but will have two dogs inside for the ride. However, it has an eight foot bed, so can carry some of your rocks!
We always stay at the FREE BLM campground (Roadrunner) about five miles south of Quartzsite on Hwy 95. No hookups, just dry desert camping.
Have to take a look at the finances, and make a decision soon. Husband has a week's vacation coming, but will have to put in for it ASAP. Jean

Sheri, we would be interested in joining you at Dixie Peak, it's not to far from where we are staying. Is the road fairly decent, we have a 4x4 but would like to arrive in one piece lol Is there a book that shows area, I have an Arizona rock hounding book but never seen that area in there. We have been to Saddle mountain for fire agates just north of there Jim & Diane

Jim and Diane, the general area is mentioned in a lot of books as Fourth of July Butte. I think one of them even gives fairly accurate directions to the general area. Dixie Peak is one of the many areas there for agate and jasper. It's one of the more prolific areas as far as I've experienced, especially for multi-colored jasper. I've actually gone in pretty far with my twd truck. The road to the area is well maintained and the only rough part is getting in farther to get the better material. I parked my truck and hiked it as well as rode on Sheri's quad to get to the better pickings.

Count me in for both trips. I'll be out for 4 days so 2 for collecting is good. I'll have a 4wd jeep but it will be a rental so I won't want to take it through anything too rough.
