Thanks Mike. I need to improve my pic taking skills. Got a new heavy duty table top tripod on order. The type that can clamp right to a table top. Maybe that will help.

And even more minerals. These came Saturday. Just got a chance to take pics. Unknown collector & mine. Silver Bow Co., near Butte Montana. From the Bob Ray collection, 1975. Apophyllite crystal can be seen sticking up in the middle of the specimen. After the countless hours I spent hounding the Calico Mts., It wasn't until recently that I found out this mineral could be collected there. I'm now in search of a nicely crystalized specimen from the Crestmore Quarry, Riverside Co., Cal. Another from the Bob Ray collection. Collected 1956.

Really like your new TN's, jakesrocks! The Colorado rhodochrosite specimen is nice and love the apophyllite sitting pretty in the okenite! Don, were you able to reinstall the mineral software?

The latest additions. Poor pics. Wife turned on overhead lights, causing blue tint to pics. Duftite (green bladed crystals), Type Location. Very nice Carlsbad Twin Orthoclase. Needs some matrix cleaned from joining surfaces of crystals. And the latest freebie. I'll be bidding on a much nicer specimen soon.

Had to look up 'clinoptilolite,' jakesrocks, and read that it forms a series with heulandite. Really like the tabular crystals of it. That's a beautiful Rogerley Mine fluorite specimen! Love the uv shot you took of it! Is it a TN, Don? Very nice ex-collection specimens and freebies (bixbite ). See that you have another one of those rare tourmaline! How do you like the new mineral software? Thanks for posting the link on the forum!

Hey Jan, good to see you back.
The Rogerly is just shy of being a small cabinet.
Some sort of computer glitch is preventing me from downloading that new program from a DVD. The guy who designed the program is going to set up a link, so I can download straight from the internet.
Was supposed to have new specimens today, but heavy snow prevented the mail man from getting out here to the boonies. I should have them tomorrow.

Thank you, Don, for the welcome back!! Having a time with trismus after the molar was extracted and taking Flexeril. Very tempting to go look at the forum members' recipes while starvin'.
Hope you are able to get the mineral program onto your computer. Could it be your firewall or antivirus blocking the installation from the cd?
That's a bummer that you couldn't get your minerals because of the snow. How much snow has your area received?

Hi Jan. We got about 6" of that cursed white stuff. High winds had the roads drifted shut.
Finally got my minerals this afternoon. I'll try to take pics after supper.

Don, the calcite looks like it has been faceted sitting pretty with the sphalerite. Sure would like to see the cassiterite in sunlight. Wow, the linarite, Brazilian tourm's, and zinnwaldite specimens are awesome freebies. Grossular, too...

Didn't score last night. Been playing nurse & slave for mamma. Also getting ready to move my mom in law into an assisted living place. I was exhausted & fell asleep in my recliner. Woke up after bidding had ended.
Jan, if it warms up enough, I'll take the Cassiterite outside for another pic. Supposed to get up to 20 above today & mostly sunny, so there's a pretty good chance I'll get - r - done.

Just a reminder to the mineral collectors out there. If you have specimens you want to show, feel free to post them here. I named the thread Thumbnail Specimen Collectors Corner, But anything from Micro mounts to large museum specimens are welcome.

Why, Why, Why ? Why do people find it necessary to mount minerals with things other than mineral tac ? Specimen in question isn't a mineral, but a large fossil Trilobite which had been mounted with window glazing putty. I've spent the better part of 2 afternoons slowly picking away at the putty with a sewing needle and a tooth brush, only to find out that the glazing putty has left a large oil stain on the bottom of the specimen.
Granted, there are times when a more permanent means of mounting is needed. My Okenite specimen on the last page is one off them. It's fastened to the foam block with a tiny dab of hot glue. But hot glue or epoxy should be reserved only for very delicate specimens. Those that are easily damaged in shipment, or by just picking them up for examination.
Please folks, if you're going to invest time and money in a mineral collection, invest a couple dollars in mineral tac and mount them correctly. Mineral tac is non hardening, non staining, and can be easily removed from a specimen if need be. None of us are going to live forever, and the next owner of your collection will appreciate that you thought enough of your collection to properly mount them.
