Why, Why, Why ? Why do people find it necessary to mount minerals with things other than mineral tac ? Specimen in question isn't a mineral, but a large fossil Trilobite which had been mounted with window glazing putty. I've spent the better part of 2 afternoons slowly picking away at the putty with a sewing needle and a tooth brush, only to find out that the glazing putty has left a large oil stain on the bottom of the specimen. Granted, there are times when a more permanent means of mounting is needed. My Okenite specimen on the last page is one off them. It's fastened to the foam block with a tiny dab of hot glue. But hot glue or epoxy should be reserved only for very delicate specimens. Those that are easily damaged in shipment, or by just picking them up for examination. Please folks, if you're going to invest time and money in a mineral collection, invest a couple dollars in mineral tac and mount them correctly. Mineral tac is non hardening, non staining, and can be easily removed from a specimen if need be. None of us are going to live forever, and the next owner of your collection will appreciate that you thought enough of your collection to properly mount them. Way to ruin my day I have really enjoyed following this thread................MrP

Bring them on Jan. Love to see them.
In a couple days I'll be bidding on a pseudomorph. Baddeletite after the rare garnet Kimzeyite.
I had more minerals come in yesterday. I'll take pics and post them later today.

In a couple days I'll be bidding on a pseudomorph. Baddeletite after the rare garnet Kimzeyite. Happy bidding, jakesrocks! That'll be a spectacular specimen to add to your collection. Both of 'em are super rare! (give 'em hell, Don! ) Haven't seen a pseudomorph of the two. Will be looking for your new specimen pics! Here's some I recently acquired. Most of these are small mineral cabinet sizes, except for the olivenite, which is smaller. Yesterday when I took photographs, one of the okenite jumped off its matrix. Guess it did not want its picture taken. Ticked me off because it arrived intact. Glued it back on with Elmers glue. Will make a note that it has been 'repaired' on labels and in mineral software. Is Elmers the best to use for specimen repair? Got a couple of quartz gems to add with the few other quartz gems with inclusions that I have been collecting. Peach-colored stilbite with calcite on matrix Malmberget, Gällivare, Lappland, SwedenOkenite, Gyrolite, Laumontite, and Heulandite on Basalt Pashan quarries, Poona, Maharashtra State Indiacheater shot of okenite, gyrolite, laumontite, & heulanditeHematite on stilbite Deccan, Indiaclose-up of stilbite Kyanite, garnet, biotite, and quartz gneiss Kazakhastanbottom of above specimenOlivenite on matrix Tsumeb mine, Otjikoto Region, NamibiaPentagonite on stilbite on matrix Poona quarry, Poona (Pune, Poohah), Maharashtra State, Indiatook lots of pics of the pentagonite really like the longest pentagonite xtal with the cool inclusions rotated this one so you can see the longest pentagonite blade with funky inclusions Although these are not specimens, I think these are pretty cool. Fiber optic cats eye spheres and some marbles... Thanks for checkin' them out!

Need to get a better pic of the Psilomelane. It's covered with tiny fuzzy crystals. No room to set up my tripod right now. I had to shoot everything hand held.
The Selenite is also covered with tiny crystals. The specimen is a pale green color, which got washed out by the light I had to use.

Green Selenite - Mt. Gunson, Southern Australia The piece above the kyanite is also selenite from Australia Part of an okenite at the bottom right. ETA: the purple on the bottom shelf is a 13 lb charoiite block, some tumbled charoite and a sphere of the same.
