That's a nice batch! When we gonna see pictures of your new display cases all loaded up with your pretties? LOL. Still moving things around, trying to make space for them. Not easy when mamma and I are both packrats. I hear ya, I still haven't assembled mine as I can't find a place for it! Got the rocks to fill it, just no open floor space where it wouldn't be jammed in there or in the way. Even the box it's still packed in has presented problems Maybe shoulda thunk on that a bit more before I got it...

I've paid from $5.00 to over $20.00 for specimens. If a specimen is extremely rare, I'll go after it. More common specimens and I set a top dollar I'm willing to pay.

Hey Bob, I have 3 of them still in the box, leaning against the wall by the front door. I can barely get the door opened enough to come through inside.

Hey Don, not sure if you've ever been to the Mineral Auctions .com site, but here's the link to their most recent auction: Probably won't work in a week or two due to new auctions auction2.mineral-auctions.com/index.php?offset=0If you're interested, I'm sure you can figure out how to bookmark the site. I've been there for years, but it usually doesn't do me a lot of good as the auctions are flooded with Thumbnail and Miniature specimens which I don't collect. I can find really nice cabinet specimens every once in awhile. Some of the thumbs and miniatures can be absolutely breathtaking. I wouldn't call it a "high end" site, more mid-level to high. Deals can be had! Just thought I'd pass it along in case eBay isn't taking up enough of your time. Just don't tell your wife I gave you the link, I wouldn't want her wrath aimed in my direction. ETA: they usually run more than one auction at a time. There are 3 going right now. Usually 30+ specimens in each. You can find the links to the different auctions at the bottom of the page.

Thanks Bob. I'll check them out. This guy usually has some nice larger specimens for sale. His next auction is Sunday evening. stores.ebay.com/The-Pebble-Peddler?_rdc=1I go mostly with the thumbnails & miniatures because I don't have room for the larger stuff. Need to finish off a room in my basement, with lots of shelves. Just need to get the permit so I can hang the drywall. Already have the wiring in place, Don't have the permit for wiring, so can't make it hot until I do.

And this weeks freebie. Trinitite from a nuclear test site. Yes, it's hot. I checked with my meter. It's clicking well above background radiation. This one will be stored in my lead lined box. That's very cool. A bit of history right there. How hot is it? I might not want to carry it in my pocket for a good luck charm, but is really that radioactive that it's a concern? You get permits to do stuff in your basement? I don't do permits if they can't see it - ain't none of their darn business.

Hey Bob, it's not hot enough to break a sweat about. I store radioactives in my lead lined box more to set my wifes mind at ease, than for any other reason. For most of my "hot" specimens, the plastic box is all of the shielding needed. When I open the lead lined box and wave my detector over it, I get barely more than normal background readings.
Got a sneaky inspector around here. He comes out once a year and peeks in windows to see if I've done anything. Permits are cheap in S.D. anyway. To build my house, the permit was only $15.00.

I forgot what place exactly but I think central station in NYC has radioactive levels that would be in the red line due to all the granite.. also bananas.

Seriously Don? You've got a city employee that looks in your windows?! wow... That sounds like a peeping Tom to me. Seems he's taking some liberties there and over stepping his legal authority. Don't believe I'd stand for that.

Seriously Don? You've got a city employee that looks in your windows?! wow... That sounds like a peeping Tom to me. Seems he's taking some liberties there and over stepping his legal authority. Don't believe I'd stand for that. Only windows in the unfinished parts of the house Bob. Garage, breezeway & basement. And he comes to the door to let me know he's there for his annual inspection first. They do it with all unfinished houses in the county. If I finish the drywall in any of those spaces, it raises the taxes on my house. On the plus side, as long as I get a permit to put them up, I can cover my property (all 8 acres) with storage sheds, as long as they're each 144 Sq. Ft. or less, without having to pay taxes on them. Each shed has to stand alone, without any connection between them.

Do you have any examples from Cobalt, Ontario? Proustite or wire silver? I have silver crystals from there, but no wire. I'll be bidding on a nice example of Prousite from there later this week.

Don't think I'd want an inspector snooping around looking in windows either. That's good to hear that he lets you know before he begins his 'inspection,' jakesrocks. Your millerite is pretty. Some of the needles look as if they have iridescence?? Nice new acquisitions and enjoyed your freebie, too!! ROFL, I wondered when/if you and captbob had a chance to put your cabinets together yet. captbob: (thought you may be interested in making a pair of DIY malachite tennis shoes since malachite is one of your faves) Malachite Sneakers Source: Mom Spark online Instructions: momspark.net/shoe-makeover-malachite-sneakers/
