Those are outstanding, jakesrocks! I like all of 'em and hope we'll see your freebies soon. Had to research ilsemannite. Very nice color and nice display set-up for it. Your Pakistani spessartine is gorgeous! Those garnets have some killer color. Thank you for posting it!

Jan, the ilsemannite is usually found in small crumbly pieces. They wet it & press it into small cakes for display.

Fantastic freebies, jakesrocks. Got some pretty garnets, too!! Love the hourglass selenite! Jan, the ilsemannite is usually found in small crumbly pieces. They wet it & press it into small cakes for display. Wow, that is interesting, Don! I'll have to see if I can find info on how they prepare the ilsemannite. That's it for this week. But be warned, I won more last night. I'll be back next week. ROFL!

Aargh !! The seller I was buying my thumbnail storage drawers from no longer sells them. By the end of the month if bidding goes well, my storage drawers will be full. I need to find a new seller. Until then I'll be storing them in cardboard boxes again.

Wicked quartz specimens ya got there, jakesrocks! Are there several specimens of vauxite in the perky box? I'm glad you found another source that has the storage drawers for your TN's - and at a better price!

I've only browsed a few pages of this thread, but wow it's an overwhelming variety of specimens. I really like the uncommon quartz formations ... I see a lot of quartz but it's all pretty boring by comparison.
Complete noob question: What qualifies as a thumbnail specimen? Is it just the small size? Is there a specific size constraint that thumbs fall under?

A thumbnail specimen will fit inside of what is called a Perky box. They measure about 1-1/8" inside, and are cube shaped. This will give a good explanation of sizes in most home collections. rockhoundingar.com/sizes.php

I was browsing the Khyber Minerals website the other day, and he has some specimens listed as 'toenail' sized, jakesrocks and tims. ROFL! I purchased a chromian grossular on diopside from Khyber Minerals and will post it later in the garnets thread.

Awesome additions to your TN collection, jakesrocks. Love the contrast of the colors of your smoky quartz with amazonite - beautiful. Cannot wait to see your fluorescent pic of your manganocalcite.

Need to get a better pic of the Titanite. That one came out bad.
The Selenite & Manganocalcite are both miniatures. The Smokey Quartz & Amazonite is a small cabinet size.
Got 3 in this batch which will fluoresce. Selenite, Manganocalcite & the Zircon. The Selenite is also strongly phosphorescent. I'll try to get pics of all 3 under UV tonight when it's dark.
