I received this very nice Aquamarine in matrix from a friend today. I'll do a little more cleaning and prep work before mounting it in a box.

Cool specimens Jan. I broke down and ordered a new specimen. No bidding. Just bought it outright. One of the rarest of gemstones. Benitoite with a crystal of Neptunite on a natrolite matrix. As soon as it gets here I'll post a couple pics.
Did you find a cabinet for your specimens yet ? My wife took pity on me and bought a display cabinet for me last year. Problem is, my primary interest is Fairburn agates. My collection has grown to the point where my thumbnails have been moved into small flatrate boxes. I'm hoping my wife will take pity on me again, so I can put the thumbnails back on display.

Don, r.e., your benitoite specimen - it's not coming from southern California, is it? One of our club members donated exactly what you said for the club raffle at our November meeting. Hmmm... It was pretty cool, though. Too bad I didn't win it! Jean

Yes Jean. The specimen is coming from a dealer in California. They had quite a few priced from $50.00 all the way up to several thousands of dollar museum specimens. Mine cost $75.00.

Thanks, Don! A benitoite specimen will be a Very nice addition to your collection, Don!! :cheesy: One day, I would love to have a benitoite specimen and a faceted benitoite also. Saw on the Cash and Treasures show of folks collecting benitoite at night by using a blacklight headlamp. Think the gems range from colors of clear to a dark blue.

ROFL, is the temptation killing you? :cheesy:
Yes, those little gorgeous benitoites are quite expensive.
Mr. W. Scott Forrest has faceted ones that have gorgeous color. He was on the same Cash and Treasures show where Kristen hunted for benitoite at night. His father owned part of the mine years ago.
Iteco has a nice selection of them also. We visited their booth each year when they were at the Martin Zinn Expos show in Cartersville, Ga. Sure wish they didn't cancel the show there.

Love the pics, I've just sold a lot of my mineral collection. The boss, (Mrs) decided that it was taking up too much room so had to go, I collected some of it myself but most was bought so I'm not really going to miss it. What I only found out when I started researching some of what I'd bought was that I really should have a geiger counter as some of the specimens would make it click. As a branch off the rock collecting, it is a very interesting hobby some of the formations and (for want of a better word) growths are truly amazing. Simon

Yes Jan, most of my specimens are ebay wins. A few are self collected. I have many other specimens that are small to medium cabinet size. But I'm trying to limit this thread to thumbnails with the occasional miniature thrown in.
