Nah, I'm not buying radioactives right now. I need to build a bigger hot box, mine is full. I have 50 pounds of tungsten that I'm going to use for my new one. I bought bicolor aragonite, celestite, copper, barite, skutterudite, and aquamarine. Hey Geoff, I would love to see a photo of the skutterudite when you have a chance. Do you know from what locality it came?

It's from the Aghbar Mine, Bou Azzer District, Morocco. I'm actually pretty bummed no one commented on my amazing 3/4 inch carrollite on the previous page of this thread. I spent a lot of time cleaning and setting up my lights. I'm in Prudhoe Bay until a week from Wednesday. I'll try to get a picture to you then.I'm dumb. Here's the pic from eBay.

Yup, and the collection keeps growing. Wife is all in a panic about the low level radioactive minerals I've been buying. So last night I ordered a really nice lead lined wooden storage case for them. Shipping on the damned thing is almost as much as the box cost, but at least it should put her mind at ease. She is worried about the family jewels Don.

James, that was just mean... Humorous, but mean. But Don's a good guy, I know he got a laugh out of it. You know he is not that old.

Four of 7 new minerals that arrived yesterday. Sorry about the glare. Pyrrhotite from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico. This one came with 2 extra labels. One from the original collector, and one from the California Academy of Science at San Francisco. Gotta love it when they come with that sort of documentation.

And 4 more for tonight. No bidding for another 4 days. The first is low level radioactive. And the last was a gift from my favorite seller. 9 Beautiful silver micro crystals.

Cool specimens Jan. I broke down and ordered a new specimen. No bidding. Just bought it outright. One of the rarest of gemstones. Benitoite with a crystal of Neptunite on a natrolite matrix. As soon as it gets here I'll post a couple pics.. Don, benitoite is our California state gem. Most of it is found along with the two other minerals. Rixrocs on eBay sells a lot of it. He's herei in San Jose.

He's herei in San Jose. Pat, way back in the 50's when I was in High School, a friend of the family was studying geology at UCLA. He interned one summer at the original Benitoite mine, and brought home several nice specimens. He etched a few of the crystals out of the host rock and gave me 2 very nice crystals. Unfortunately after I left to join the Navy my father decided to do some house cleaning, and the crystals disappeared. Oh, by the way, I grew up in Riverside, Cal. One of my haunts as a young rockhound was the Crestmore Quarry. That was before they closed it to collecting. Lots of beautiful and rare minerals have come out of that mine. It's the type locality for several, and a few of the rarest are found nowhere else, much like Benitoite.

Hi, Don!! Had to revisit you awesome thumbnail collection! Did you get your collection displayed in the barrister cabinets? If there's a pic of it on the forum, would you please point it out to me? I love the labels you made for your radioactive materials! Couldn't help but chuckle after reading of you purchasing a box to place your radioactive specimens so your wife would be okay with your collection. Have been sneaking peeks of your fossils, too. Very nice! What is Bauxite? It looks like oolite? Is it a fossil or rhyolite (or ??)

Bauxite is a primary ore of aluminum.
Sorry folks. Haven't posted anything lately. That doesn't mean I haven't been buying specimens. Just been too sick & weak to hold a camera steady for pics. Starting to feel stronger. Whole bunch of pics coming soon.
