It would of worked well with sealed Pillow Block bearings on the new shafts as well. they are water proof as well.
just mount them on the aluminum block top with tapped stud bolts and lock washers in drilled and tapped holes.
they also make a face mounted bearing that would do the same thing with mounts by thru bolts in the sheet metal.
