A friend asked me to sell her Sears Craftsman Flat Lap and faceting machine for her. It has the main body, drip cup, faceting head, 2 diamond laps, about a dozen assorted 220, 400 and 600 SC sanding pads, a rock hard polish disk and a soft felt polish disk. Also the rubber faced disk for the sanding pads and a wooden disk for ?? Also has another clamp on thingy that I have no idea what it's for, but comes with the machine. Overall, the unit is in excellent shape except for a few numbers are missing on the facet dial head. Solid Unit. She only wants $125 for it, I think the 2 - 6 inch diamond lap disks (which look unused to me) cost more than that!
Email if interested. Location: Albuquerque, NM Pickup preferred, but can ship for cost.

Hello Phil, The Craftsman is the same as the B & I Gem Maker. The part you are talking about is a vice that allows the unit to be used as a saw. I have the Craftsman but have not tried sawing. If you would like the manual I can email it. The price is a real bargain for a quality flat lap. Randy.

I'd snatch that up in a heart beat but won't get paid for another 2 weeks minimum... If I can come up with the cash I'll let you know if its still available that is.... would need it shipped to Florida, no problems paying for it still a bargain!!

I don't see your email phil, but pm'd you already. If it runs and can polish slabs, I'm interested if it's still available.

Thanks.
Randy, I have the B&I manual that goes with it, thanks!
Mario, Not a problem. But first come first, etc....
Helen, PM'd you back, not sure about polishing slabs, maybe folks here can chime in on possibility. It's not a vibratory flat lap, if that's what you are thinking about. I know I could do cabs on it no problem, and also facet stuff no problem. Would have to think about how to do the flats, never did that before except in a vib unit or 8 inch polishing unit. I'm sure I could figure a way...
Will try and get a pic to post later today.

Helen has first dibs....
Here's a photo. Things are actually in better condition than they look. I think it's missing the saw arm. so faceter and cabber capable only.

I pm'd Phil that I'm going to pass on this... mostly because I'm a mechanical idiot, and I don't know where I could get a motor from, or how to hook it up. Yes, I have a husband, but nagging him to do it would take 6 months, and we'd be fighting every day about it. He'd dig in, I'd dig in, and well... been there done that, rather pay someone to do it than to go there again:P. (and if you asked HIM, he does EVERYTHING I want him to do... and this is the difference between men and women... ).
Anyway, it sounds like a great price, a great item, and I wish I weren't a mechanical dunce, but I am, so my loss is your gain:).

Mario, you were the second to ask. Want it?
Thanks, Phil

A 6 inch lap will make flats but only about 2 inches and smaller. Great for cabs though.

Hi Phil, Did Carlton and Mario reply and pass. If so I may be the one next for interest. I didn't think it would make it down to me but if so I would like to make arrangements. Helen mentioned the motor. The original post mentioned it ran good. I didn't see another post that it needed a new one but wanted to make sure. If it does need one I don't mind looking for one. I also live in Washington so will have to be shipped. Wish I could hello by just picking it up but thank you for for for posting for sale on RTH.
I'll PM you, Matt

Matt, Last I heard from Mario, he said if still available in 2 weeks... I see Carlton hasn't "passed" <grin>, and technically, I think blackout5783 was next in line after Helen. You guys work it out? I did say first come etc..... Nerf balls at 5 feet..... let me know who wins! hehehe You might want to read the original post again. <G>. It is in good shape, except the facet head has a few numbers missing, but the notches are there, and it's easy to see the settings. No motor, they're too heavy and not worth it to ship a used motor anyway. You'll need a 1725 rpm motor, low horsepower. 1/3 ought to do just fine if I remember correctly. Used furnace motors with the high speed burned out work just fine, and you can get them cheap at your local plumbers. Years ago I used to get them for about $5.... I can disassemble it (remove the 3 legs is all) and pretty sure I can fit it into one large USPS priority FRB. click on the pic I posted and you can see the condition it's in. The diamond wheels look like they have a little rust, but that's deceptive. The diamonds are almost unused and in very good shape. The discoloration is because it sat on a shelf in the shed after her husband died, and it's really better than the photos look. She'd like to get it sold fast, that's why it's priced so low. Oh.... the grease cup is missing a cap? At least it looks that way to me, I don't really know, but you should be able to get a pipe cap at the hardware store for it for about a buck. If not, a rubber cane tip works well also. Just thread it on and away you go! So, either way, in 24 hours, I will take first offer on the table (yours) unless blackout5783 or Carlton chimes in and you want to let them have it instead. up to you. Gee whiz, this is hard.... wish I had 3 to sell! <G> Thanks! Phil

Oh good, I'm glad you chimed in Carleton, I wasn't sure who was in the line of interest as some folks go straight to PMing. I didn't want to overstep another members interest. Never cared for line cutters lol Thanks for the clarification on the motor In the OP. I didn't read that correctly. Still a great price/steal for the unit.

OK, Carlton pm'd that he wants it too. So that leaves blackout5783 to speak out, as technically he spoke up right after Helen. If I don't hear from blackout5783 by this time tomorrow, it's Carltons, and if he changes his mind, then it's Matts.... Oh, I don't do PayPal, but I trust folks here.... a check or USPS money order is just fine. Phil
