Howdy folk, Wow, this morning I was shifting around some boxes in my shop and finally found the 30 pound box of lost tumbling material I've had missing since my move from California to Texas. This is pre broken, tumble sized jasper from up at our old Hornitos ranch and contains material from my Firefly Jasper, Cosmos Jasper, and Sierra Brecciated Jasper sites. All three of those locations produced relatively unfractured and unpitted jaspers with brecciaated, spotted and poppy type patterns. Can't wait to run this through the tumbler. Here are a couple of pics of the lot......Mel

We're always advising newcomers to expect the 60/90 stage(s) to take longer, sometimes a lot longer, than the tumbler instructions suggest. Sounds like you know this material, so how many recharges of the 60/90 stage do you expect it will need before it's ready for the 120/220? How long are we going to have to wait to see it all polished? I can't wait.

Daniel, Since this stuff is material I broke up by hand and is both hard and very angular, I'd expect most pieces will take at least four weeks in 60/90 with weekly recharges. A lot of hunks will probably take even longer than that, as I like this jasper well rounded, but what I do is pull out the finished pieces and throw them in a separate bin until I have enough for stage two. To keep the barrel at the proper fill level I just add more fresh rock as I remove the finished pieces. I keep my large tumbler running coarse grind all the time and do the last three stages in a UV-10....Mel

Thanks Mel. I tumble exactly like you, moving along rocks individually as they are ready. Four weeks in the 60/90 at least, and a lot of it even longer. My experience with Bahia agates and Lakers is that it can take even longer than 4 weeks! Keep in mind though, this is how long it takes us running a big tumbler, not a 3 lb tumbler, where it's going to take even longer still. I bring this up for the benefit of newcomers. Throw away the instructions that came with your new 3lb tumbler. It really does take that many weeks grinding before rocks are ready to be transferred to the 120/220.

I have no idea what they are going to look like as I am still very new to this. But the thing that always amazes me is the ugly look before they go in and then the beautiful look afterwards. Can't wait to see the end product.
