Oh. Hope the goldfish don't eat it then:). One of the lilies I got from the local pond has 3 flower buds, and another has 1, so I should have my first flowers in a few days:)!!

Lets see how this posts from Google+ (still testing pix hosting:P) My first flower (s) ... 2nd one bloomed:) My whole pond... as of this minute, there's THREE white flowers now, and they're about 3 1/2" diameter... but they aren't fragrant:(:

It's so neat to see them all together like that:)!!
James... the teeny lily blobs you gave me all have over 2" leaves (and every one of them has more than 10 leaves at the base), and the lotus you just sent are already doing out of water leaves (they are BIG... not small!! LOL!). The Wan Visa now has about 3-4" diameter leaves too (they're the dark red ones on the bottom left). Oh. Don't let the teacup fool you for scale, it's a 6-8" in diameter soupbowl I was using it to scoop mosquito larvae out of the small flower pot into the pond for the goldfish to eat:P.
Also, I think I found your carnivorous plants!!! I have spread them to my algae blooming pot... but they aren't eating mosquito larvae... I think the mosquito larvae are eating them...
ALSO... out of 5 feeder gold fish, only 2 survived, but in less than a month, they got fat and round and tripled in length. Now they're about 2" long (they started out about 3/4" long). I hope they don't keep growing like that or they won't fit in the pond soon...

That pond is in great shape.Pretty white blooms from your territory. With that many plants you have got clear, algae free water. Those were very minimal plants and you got them going.A testament to you green thumb. I just now noticed the coral.Great place to use it.

LOL! The big corals in back are the ones we pillaged from the seawall at Tarpon Springs out of frustration:P. LOL! Um... I ended up getting my cooked and uncooked whole corals all mixed up in my enthusiasm to put corals around the pond... ugh. Now I can't remember which ones are cooked... I thought the white ones were native florida oderatas... but they are NOT fragrant... so now I think they're hybrids:(... those started out full sized, so they're loaded with buds... but I figure yours should bloom in a month or so if the current growth rate continues. I figured out why they are exploding like that... COW SHIT!!! I used 1/3 cow manure mixed with 1/3 cat litter and 1/3 of the cheapest possible potting soil I could buy (the expensive stuff had peat and floated all over the pond, so I had to scoop it all out and start over). My little test pond that's a complete algae bloom mess with a stunted lily and a stunted lotus with 1 sad teeny lotus leaf (the biggest lotus root from the same bucket as the big lotus leaves you see at the bottom- what you said was Ben Gibson) was in good potting soil with a 1/2 cup of citrus food. Potting soil = BAD. I'm pretty sure that the reason the pond is clear is due to the acid from the cow poop. I keep trying to make the pond bloom by scooping the HUGE algae bloom from the small pond (really a big plastic flower pot) and dumping it in there, and the algae hits the water and DIES. Here's the buckets. The one on left is the algae bloom one. Finally trimmed the poor formerly lush banana clump I forgot to water...

I just realized my memory was flawed on the goldfish... they weren't 3/4" when they started, they were a bit over 1"... so they only doubled in size in a month. But they did triple in mass because they are MUCH rounder and doubled in size:).

Include me for what:)? I'm not escargot!!
Actually, I LIKE escargot. I saw an article about the invasive African snails yesterday... and the first thought I had was... hrm... wonder if they are edible and taste like Escargot? If they do, and can be sold, how long you think they'll be a threat in Florida? People would be scarfing them up everywhere and selling them to local restaurants:).
Parfive, we have all that... AND we have palm trees, blue skys and sunny weather 95% of the time, and when it rains, it usually lasts for an hour. Plus, the temperature here is an average year round in the 70s... specifically: Average High Temperatures by Month
January 71 February 74 March 78 April 83 May 88 June 91 July 92 August 92 September 89 October 84 November 78 December 73
No SAD possible, no vitamin D deficiencies, and it's one of, if not the top, tourist destination in the world, with Disney's main complex including 4 different parks, Universal Studios with 2 different parks, and a plethora of other theme parks, roughly 150,000 hotel rooms, the #1 Convention destination in the world, ahead of Washington DC and Las Vegas. Helen! Yes!! they are edible. They taste exactly like the European escargot snail you have already eaten. Just far bigger and meatier.
PLEASE do not ask me how I know this. I'd have to plead the fifth amendment against self incrimination.
The USDA is totally worried about these snails. They are EVERYWHERE on Maui and most are as large as tennis balls, some larger. The fine to bring them back from Maui is $5,000 PER SNAIL!

I have to ask... with all the tourists on Maui... why aren't THEY eating them then (as in cooking them and serving them to tourists as a local delicacy) ?
