I think I have the pix uploading figured out from my phone... use FLICKR (not googledrive, skydrive, box, or dropbox... pft) Here's what my pond looks like now with the new plants James sent me! James sent a whole bag of lily roots and 3 little Baby Doll lotus (potted together in the dark blue tub). I got a few bigger plants from a local pond so I'd have something growing to hide goldfish (to eat mosquito eggs). I have the lilies potted up in the blue bucket, and the white tub sitting inside the pond. At the moment, it's still experimental, so I used buckets I can fish out easily if things die. Can't wait to see what I can get to grow out of that:)! Thanks James!!!

Love your lily pond, Helen!! Really like the materials around it, too. When will you add fish to it?

Jan, I already added fish to it... there's 6 feeder goldfish in there. They're small, so hard to see (the pond is about 6' long x 5' wide). The goldfish are slightly bigger than 1" long... so they won't show up in pix:). I think I need to get a few more goldfish, because I can SEE mosquito larva at the top of the pond, and they're not eating them...

The lily has alligator seeds in it.Keep your eye out. Also Cottonmouth eggs. The lotus are a carnivorous variety that eat fish.If you see fast moving silver fish net them out before their teeth develop. If you can't catch them move your barbecue grill away so they won't grab your steaks.Oh yea,the 4 foot leaches,is your dog a large animal........Have you ever heard of the little catfish from South America that likes to swim up orifices......And that ameoba that enters thru the ear.....And palmettoo bugs,no the aquatic variety with the fish piercing stilleto in it's head... Happy Water Gardening Helen:>

Meh. All I saw in there when I got them were ants! LOTS of biting ants! However, Georgia ants are clearly not as tough as Florida ants, because the bites stopped itching within an hour:)... hrm... I wouldn't mind having some carnivorous fish with big teeth... maybe THEY'll eat the giant mosquito larvae... LOL!

Ponds are fun once you get them up and running. My current, ongoing, weekend project is a pond I hope to finish it in my lifetime lol Helen, what is your avatar? It is simply beautiful. I have never seen anything like it. Do you have any other photos of it?

Helen, you do not need to get more goldfish. Within several weeks, you will have several hundred. Trust me.

Hi Vibratumble, thanks:)! The avatar is one of my glass pendants, this one is an abstract and started out as a jellyfish, but I thought it would look neater turned on its side:). Susan, you're probably right, the little goldfish seem right at home. They just haven't grown yet...

Shouldn't that be dug into the ground to help keep the water cool??
I heard that guppies like mosquito larvae

Ok! New pix:)! The new lilies that James sent have ALL put out leaves (the Wan Visa is the little round red ones on the bottom left), and the 'Colorado' are the mass of little varigated ones in the middle from 2 tubs. The lotus are in the bottom right and the middle, and the water plants are mostly in the tub on the left. Everything has sprouted, even for me, who kills every plant I get my hands on:)!!! Course, not having to water them makes it way easier to grow . Pot of bog plants that will eventually need to be repotted: 2 little pots with a lotus and a lily each: This one decided to have an algae bloom - I mixed 1/2 a cup of citrus food in the soil to see what would happen... uh... bad idea: Thanks again James! They're all doing GREAT, and I'll need more ponds soon:).

Nice looking ponds, I think you need to supply her with some aldrovanda to keep the vagrants in check. Anything swimming around will become lunch, the fish should be ok though. Maybe...

Instead of aldrovanda she has utricularia inflata(a carnivorous bladderwort). It tears up mosquito larvae and unfortunately small tadpoles. But i got to look into aldrovanda droseraguy. The utricularia is in full bloom, this pic yesterday

Most of my plants have the utriculata, may take a while. All it takes is a thread of it.Goldfish will eat it up.The 2nd photo has 2-leaf clover, also known as butt cheek. Impressed with your progress Helen
