Monday update:
His name is Sprinkles and a big cage is on the way. Cage will later be used for baby birds that have fallen from their nests. He panics when startled from a sound sleep. She plans on letting him go when mature. Some sites say six weeks, and some say a lot longer. She'll play it by ear.
I can't believe I am cheering for a squirrel --- the destroyer of our fruit crops --- but I am!

The body is up to 27 inches and tail 13 inches. A big squirrel and various colors. The fox squirrel  That is a honking big fox squirrel! Four or five of them and we could all have a good meal...I would probably need some help cleaning that huge thing though. Cool. I learn all kinds of things on this site. |

Got one of those rascals in my yard, but haven't seen it for a while. After waiting six weeks, my rebuilt pellet gun is set to arrive today. Now I can blow a .22 caliber hole in him, instead of a .177! I won't be eating it, though.
About the strangest meat I've eaten (besides rattlesnake) was iguana. It was cooked into a chili at an Earth Day celebration some time back, I'm guessing if you put enough spices on it, you could probably eat just about anything, |

EEEK! The cat you see in the first post is my cat --- five pounds. Daughter's cat (Loki) is about 10 pounds. Loki walked up to Sprinkles' box late last night and tentatively put a big paw into the box, inches from the squirrel. Baby squirrel squeaked loudly and jumped. Loki jumped and ran away. I like big dumb squirrels. Less bullets  Those things are expensive these days! About eating squirrel. They are very good! When I was growing up, the old folks would always eat the brains ICK I tried one once, ONCE! I cut the heads off of em. About pet squirrels, I have never had one but have known several people that have. Best advice is to keep em in a big cage when you are not around, they like to gnaw. My uncle had two flying squirrels when I was a kid, they were pretty calm. Cat squirrels are like on speed or something. I have a friend whose wife had one and that sucker LOVED her so much. She would open it's cage and it would race all over her for like a full minute it was so excited...craziest thing that I have ever seen lol. My family were loggers so they were all the time bringing home creatures big and small. |

Pat they gnaw to keep their teeth in good shape. Perhaps a piece of wood in the cage is in order. He will gnaw it to sawdust, but his teeth will be perfect. Any dentists in the family?

Photos from this morning. He's learning how to wash his face, but every time he lifts his paws to wash, he falls on his nose. He has to work out the balance thing now. Too cool. Little rascal is moving right along. Little clumsy eh. They are't clumsy when they grow up! That is the most acrobatic animals(grey squirrels anyway). He looks like a classic grey that we have here in Georgia>

Here's Sprinkles napping on his back. He's in the box in the cage (now referred to as the Palace)! Yesterday he ate his first nut --- a half of an almond. He tried to eat it, then to bury it.
