Think about it, though. When a swimming pool filter removes the dirt, it does not dump diatomaceous earth into the pool. The filter paper contains it inside the filter. Right?

When I was a kid we had a diatom filtered above ground pool. Mom pulled the "leaves" out and washed the crud away. Then she returned the clean leaves and dumped in one 1# coffee can of diatoms. This directly in front of the pump intake. They were pulled into the pump and thru the leaves. A small cloud of diatoms did emerge from the water return, these passed thru before the leaves were completely coated. But they then went back in thru the intake and got caught by the pump. No doubt some were left in the pool. What a few grams for 500 gallons? Newer filters prolly more efficient. Diatomaceous earth is silica with some aluminium oxide in for good measure.

Put some saw muck in a catchup bottle and tie a rope to it so you can swing it in circles like David of Goliath fame. I wonder how well a centrifuge works on it.
I am wondering about a cheap ultrasound vibrator. The belly pan of a saw is inviting for a low power vibrator.

So you just leave the muck? and let it build up everywhere except immediately next to the blade?
Sooner or later you gotta muck it out.

Here is another shot at it. www.hplapidary.com/p/730/everclean-oil-cleaning-system

Well there is a filter for sure. Thanks for sharing that foxtail. And made by Highland to boot.

James, diatomaceous earth is the white powder used in swimming pool filters. It is composed of the (limestone) skeletons of diatoms. For fining wine, they use something called bentonite clay. From wiki I had no idea that they could be used in oils. From wiki answers Funny that they say you should only use the filtered oil for fuel in your bio-diesel vehicle. Not safe for human consumption? What I remember is that it is gritty. I'm thinking the concern with used veggie oil would be stagnation.

It is composed of the (limestone) skeletons of diatoms. Correction - I said that backwards. The shells of the diatoms are silica, like Scott said. They make up limestone.

It's interesting the mention petroleum.
I have a buddy works in the oil biz has evidence (he says proof) that oil is not biogenic. But instead a natural result of our planet. He points to old "spent" wells that are fuller now than when first drilled. His job is to use some "proton" source device for well testing. He drops a probe down the hole and turns it on from remote. That is the limit of my knowledge.

I had a diatomaceous filter on my fish tank. I never knew water could be that clear.
