Wind chill was 18 this morning. Shot one 2 days ago and 6PM last night. Cold wet week makes for good cooking/hanging/processing weather. Convection oven(aka old rock stove) drying down deer jerky keeping house toasty warm Dogs in love About to launch Hams were about 10 pounds each. Removed without gutting/skinning w/machete in like 60 seconds each Left out on the deck to dry for ease of handling. Deer were taken intentionally to process during cold and windy front coming in. The wind will dry the meat quickly. Oops. The gun kicked and i got hit by the scope. Never felt it till the blood came streaming out. Man that spot bleeds a lot The carcasses are put upwind from the coyotes.About 500 yards from the house in north westerly direction so coyotes get em before my dogs. They will be gone in the morning.

Mmmm, looks tasty! Hey, I have a permanent scar shaped just like yours, Two times over the years, crawled up just a tad too close on the scope while shooting downhill, from prone. Bleeds like a stuck hog, no?

My friend got cut really bad 30 years ago and i always paid attention. In a stand and shooting down. What's w/the down position?(i rarely hunt from a stand)
The scope has a thick rim. Some are really sharp. Lucky me.

Wow, looks like a lot of work! It certainly looks like some nice, lean meat. I love all those girls wearing their sweaters, waiting for treats! I know that look well...
Yes, cuts to foreheads, or anywhere on your head, will bleed a lot. I have a smaller scar on my forehead, just above my right eyebrow. Somehow was klutz enough to pull a car door open too fast, whammed the corner of it right into me head - ouch!

That explains a lot. The impact created a cool person. I tell dog mom that i put my hand over their nose when they are asleep. They wake up out of breath and i claim it makes them sweet. Wife disagrees.

Man I wish I could get one more this year. I shot a muley doe last month and we've already eaten nearly a quarter (big family, lots of burger)

Thanks bsky. Western recipe, cure/seasoning from 'Hi Mountain' out of Riverton Wyoming. 8 different flavors. Nitrite cure.
I do not know what to say John. They are begging for us to kill the population down around Atlanta. Insurance companies tired of paying out on deer/auto collisions. It's dangerous. And over population causing starvation. Deer burgers-ground w/3% beef fat-way delicious.

Wife disagrees. Huh? I don't get it, how does almost suffocating the dogs make them sweet? They are grateful to you for not doing them in? I'm thinking giving them a bunch of that deer jerky would make them sweet, lol. Or is it too rich for them?

Mr James ! It sure has been a rainy night in Georgia and still doing it ! My wife bought me " iPhoto,iMovie, and other Mac Programs "FOR SENIORS!!" Great cold rainy day Frankie-for reading-yuk. It was 33F and raining good. And Carrolton was the same i imagine... Not good for man nor beast as Sammy always used to say. I miss him terribly. He was about my best friend. We always talked on days like this cause we hated being stuck indoors. He tickled me how he would call and tell me i missed or hit the deer. He said he could hear the slap when it hit. He was always right. He always bewildered me.

It is really just a way to start contention with the likes of you and my wife. Cause you guys love the dogs waaaaaaaay more than the old men. Isn't it so Jean. Tell it...

I love my dogs, but I wouldn't say more than male company, lol. There are some things men are better at! A few things.
You are lucky that they don't bite you when you do that. Survival instinct is strong...
Sometimes, when sweet Lucy is asleep, I will take a treat and hold it up in front of her nose. It's funny to watch her face as she smells it and wakes up. Of course, I always give it to her afterward.

When they start dreaming they jerk and run and squeal i will block their air passage till they wake. huffing and puffing-making them sweeter.
When they dream like that they must think that they are spontaneously combusting.

Lucy likes to sleep on her bed with her feet up against the wall. She wakes me up when she starts tap dancing on the wall.

I got a laugh out of the "programs for seniors". A few years ago, the Oregon legislature decided to make some sort of official recognition to everyone 50 or older as being "Honored Elders". What a way to make you feel good.
