KCC for the month February 2014! Rules: Nothing has changed, Entries are not required to be started in the time frame of the contest, only finished by the deadline. All entries however will still require a photo of the slab, preform and finished cab. So no cabs pulled from the drawer. Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs can not be entered in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. Again, please remember to include a pic or two of the original slab, then a pic of the preform, and finally, the finished cab. We ask that all entries submitted to this contest be unique to the RTH version of the Killer Cab Contest. I will do my best to monitor the other forums for duplicate entries, and any duplicates will be disqualified. You can enter any shape cab and your choice of mineral. Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the material, the process or what ever else you would like to share. Cabs posted here are only for the contest. I think we have another sponsored package, just need to confirm details. If anyone would like to sponsor any months contest, please feel free, we are not trying monopolize that, lol, its just fun to get a prize, so when there is no sponsor we will keep doing our best to get the winner some material I have a small request, because I am not always 100% confident in identifying all materials, if everyone could do their best to remember to ID the material (even if it may seem obvious) it would help me at times, I get concerned I will make a mistake if I guess when I am creating the poll. If you have no idea on the material, that's perfectly OK too I have entered my fair share of mystery materials, there is no shame in saying "not sure what this is", usually we get some ID help through out the contest too which is a bonus. Good Luck everyone! Carleton

I guess I'll get this month off and running - give Roger plenty of time to come and kick my butt hahaha. This is a piece of wingate agate that my sweetie bought at the PowWow sale from Scott's friend Jeremy. I was more nervous cutting into this expensive little beauty than any other piece I've worked on so far. We had to make a decision to go across the small slab and try to get two cabs (risky) or go with it and have a better chance of getting one solid cab. We went with the one cab layout - I started it large thinking if it broke I could recover. The pre-cut. After rough shaping the dome. The cab was very stable at this point but there was one area of softness in the middle and fearing the worst I decided to go ahead and seal it using Opticon. After mixing the hardener and spreading it on the rock I was careful not to fill in the druzy feature. It's a big cab and once again being nervous and not wanting to break it I double-dopped it to spread the stress while on the wheels. The finished product is stunningly beautiful - very vivid colors - the camera doesn't do it justice. We plan on wrapping it in sterling silver as soon as my order arrives from Rio. Photo added 2-15-14 Thanks for looking!

That is a beautiful cab Tommy and I really enjoyed seeing the the steps in the process. I still have never tried to seal a stone. Looks like you did everything perfectly! I can't wait to see it wrapped. I just ordered and received my first sterling wire as well.

Lots of talented artists here so jump in and help support Carleton and the contest. I wish I could, but I am dealing with Meralgia Parasthetica, "Lateral Femoral Nerves", the nerve which runs over the pelvic bone and under the outer thigh tendons. Seems that I have some inflammation in there somewhere which limits how for I can walk without a lot of pain. I have Oxycodone which about as useful and a sugar pill when it comes to nerve pain, which means I have little chance to get out to my shed to work on/finish the cab I started for the Jan. KCC contest. Believe me I would rather lose the KCC than not be able to enter it at all !!!!!!

No worries - hope you get better soon. I was referring to everyone in general - I'd love to see this contest be the most popular thread on the board with lots of beautiful entries.

Wow, those are amazing y'all! Here's mine. This is from a little slab I got from Zippy at Quartzsite. It's some of that chrysocolla in specular hematite which was popular this year. I liked this one because it looked like rivers of hematite on blue sand. The slab, both sides: The preform: The cab. The hematite is tiny bit sparkly but that doesn't really show in the pics. And, just because EVERYTHING looks better next to a sleeping kitten . . . .

Wait, wait, wait....is there a cuteness category to this competition? Cuz I can find some kittens if I can't make a great cab! Honestly, I don't know how you guys expect us noobs to get in on this when the competition is so fierce! These are all really super!! ~Roland
