The predominate tree of the territory. Will be snapping off and coming down. Usually w/.25 to .5 inches of freezing rain. The middle part of the state is predicted to have 1 inch. These trees have never seen ice like that. Even Atlanta is predicted to have .5 inches. Last time Atlanta had .5 inches of ice freeze to the pines was 1973 and we watched green orange yellow and red explosions all night long and had no power for 2 weeks. For hours transformers blew and made a continuos stream of light for hours. Houses looked like saddles w/large trees sitting in them. The dark purple is 1 inch.

Hunker down, man! Do you have a lot of large trees within striking distance of the house, James?

Only on 3 sides. But they are not pines. Probably get some limbs.

So pines are the worst, as far as ice damage? The first to come down?
Dang, but it was 80 degrees here, today... supposed to get even warmer the next few days. I'll be thinking of you, and feeling sorry for you, lol. Brrrr.

James, the same storm is hitting us up here on the outer banks of N.C. We have about 2-3 inches of ice right now. About 40 miles inland where I work there is about 8-10 inches of snow and ice!

I'm fine. Fire wood, full gas bottle, food. Three F's of survival Jean. Honkered down and ready.
Yes, the yellow pine is very common. Commonly 30" in diameter and tall. They snap with the weight of ice. And they are heavy. Tearing power lines down and crushing houses. We have not had a tree snapper for many years and the pines grow fast. They grow next to houses and they are a big threat. So many out of state people have moved here and have no idea of the situation. You can sell a house and do not have to bring this point to the buyers attention. The locals cut em down. Worse is the middle east part of the state. Those trees probably never had a heavy ice load.
That area is big timber country and the yellow pine is about our most valuable tree. So even the timber companies may sustain huge losses. If they really get 1 inch of ice it will be incredible. I experienced a half inch and it was insane.
Now they are predicting wind. So it will really be crazy. I ain't going anywhere; i will have bamboo laying all the way up my long driveway. It raises back up when the ice melts. I will be riding around on the 3 wheeler maybe trying to get a 3UI. LOL

We got lucky and had an inside job during our recent snow/ice thing; had 6 buckets of sunstones w/little lava chunks delivered so we could sort them. Ma & I had a pretty good time with it, helping the kid out.

They just jumped the prediction from .4 inches to 1.1 inches of accumulation. Unheard of. Atlanta is in for a big surprise. It started raining an hour ago and it is 31F. The perfect storm. Going to move a car out to the street so i can get out.

Mr James, I am ready too ! Here at 7 am it is just raining. Looking for it to change over at any minute. Lucky I don't have pines around the house. I do have sweetgums. Maybe the roof will safe from the limbs if they fall. I remember the freezing rain storm that hit in 1961 when I was living in LaGrange. Without power for over a week. Ice was very thick. Melted ice on the gas stove to have water to drink and make coffee. I figured we were pass due a freezing ice storm. Take Care Mr James !

Looked at the weather last night. They were touting the storm starting in Texa, comings across the south and up the coast to New England.
It was -1 when I got into my car this morning...about 9 in Boston now...They have been predicting up to a foot since Sunday but it looks like enough warm air coming up the coast to make it a rainier mix than expected... maybe 2-5 here.
I remember snow and ice storms when I was in Texas years ago, crippled everything like Atlanta was last week.
Been a good year to be a kid

Keeps blinking. Only about 1/8 inch of ice but round #2 is coming today. It got colder and started sleeting thank goodness. If it will just stay cold(28 and colder) we will be fine. But the sun may heat thru the clouds and start warming us back to 30-32F and reap havoc. That is the magic temp for the ice wedge. Stay safe Frankie, and at home. Next round is on it's way. We are way past for an ice storm.

Hopefully, Mr Foxtail, it will kill these annoying redbugs, fleas and "mo skit toes" ! Had good 2 inch snow on top of the freezing rain and sleet in Carrollton GA. Looks beautiful this morning. Never lost power, was lucky on that ! To clear up this afternoon ! Can't wait !
