I am pretty sure Shawn at "The Rockshed" will be the real winner in this contest, lol. Its going to take a whole lot of grit to turn all the rocks in those boxes into smooth shiny gems. Cant wait to get started. I have empty barrels ready to go.

Chuck, I agree, Shawn is probably the big winner. I have my tumblers ready to go, checked them out today. This should be fun.

me understands this is all in fun and all ....and i do not want to change anything....but i have a question or 2. we are to post our own pics in this thread...for people to vote on? if, so O.K. would it might be better for all to send pics to someone that would post the tumbles with no name or number or anything that would identify the tumbling person? just thunking out loud ....kev.

I think sending all the pictures in to one person and having them posted without names in a poll is the fairest way (Daniel did this for his virtual cab contest) but that would probably add work for Roy or John so that's up them. Either way it's going to be fun. Plenty of time left to hash out how the voting works. Chuck

It sounds like a good idea to have pictures posted anonymously. This will be my third batch of tumbles. I have my second batch on the second stage right now. My first batch didn't turn out all that well. I tried to tumble amethyst and rutile quartz. I don't know if the rough I had was all fractured or if I ended up fracturing them during the tumble process. I'm looking forward to getting this started though!

Good luck to everyone although I'm going to need it more since I haven't finished a batch yet. It's going to be a real learning experience for me. I need someone to babysit my rocks while I'm in California for two weeks, any takers?? Seriously though, should I just let it run or shut it down while I'm gone? Maybe I'll ask the better half to check and make sure the barrels are still turning while I'm gone.

Can we start them as soon as we get them or do we take photos or wait until everyone gets their boxes?

Jim, I check my barrels weekly, so they would be grinding for the first week and not so much for the second week. Would your wife be willing to just rinse them and add more grit?

As long as someone is around I would just let them run, no real risk.
