Got my box today and it looks great. Have been out taking mom to the doctors so I'll get a pic up tomorrow.
Just for clarity .... we can cut, break or grind as we see fit? Next week is supposed to be warmer here and I been itching to cut something for a while. (big grin) Most of the larger pieces are too big for my tumblers and tile saw so are destined for the hammer and chisel.
Thank you Roy and John, you guys rock (pun intended)

Got my box today too. great looking rough. lets get this party started! I would normally be completely against the use of a saw for a tumbling contest as that really is not fair to some of the newcomers that do not have saws but some of my rough are end cuts so it would be hard to determine what was already cut and what was cut after receiving? Here's a glimpse at the rough No problem picking 10 quality tumbling stones from this selection Chuck

I got my box, too! I won't start the tumble until I hear the starter pistol (is there a "OK GO" or do we just start?) Here's the box, banged up per USPS requirement: All the goods dry: All the goods wet, a bit at a time: Lots of color, lots of Oregon/Idaho-looking jaspers in there, some really pretty greens and blues, and some little surprise fortified chips and bits of slabs and end cuts that look partly tumbled. Here's what I'll start with, there is a lot of larger stuff I will cut up and feed into another barrel. I think there is probably one more barrel's worth not in this batch: I'll put some ceramic in to fill in the gaps a bit and when I get the all-clear I'll start tumbling. Thanks for the very generous offer Roy and for helping out John!

I received my box today. I will get pictures up tomorrow night. It is supposed to be a nice day here in Western NY. I'm looking forward to starting even though I've been sick since Monday. Thank you Roy and John for all of your hard work.

I got my box, I got my box, happy dance, happy dance. Thank you Roy for your generosity. my box also contains a lot of Oregon/Idaho Jasper's. How much are supposed to tumble, all of it or what fits in a 6# barrel or what. I need to break up a bunch of the stuff that I got, can we saw and break this up now or do we wait until we get the go ahead to start the competition? Here's a photo of what I received.

Myself I've got a 7" wet tile saw only. There are only about 4 or 5 pieces in the box that I'd cut. Not looking to make slabs or shapes out of them. Would just cut a piece into halves or thirds and bevel the edges to keep the flats from going concave. Most of the pieces I think are too big or too rough are getting the hammer and chisel treatment. Maybe a few more contestants should weigh in on this subject. I like to "play by the rules" which is why I brought it up.

Woo Hooo...Glad to see what ya'll are getting...This is going to be a good one ...Just remember..All you need is 10 stones for the judging...Tumble as much as you can for better chances of quality....or what will fit into your barrel...How it gets from rough to finished is however you decide..Rule #3...John

Oh Boy!! Oh Boy!! Box was waiting on the front porch last night when I got home from work. Once I got it inside and opened up I had to wait in line as my husband and son both beat me to the goods. Being wet behind the ears tumbling and never working with agate or jaspers in this way the box was a bit intimidating. But I am sure that when I get the chance to really get everything wet, washed, sorted and sized on Sunday any apprehensions will vanish. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

Agate and jasper is the easiest stuff to tumble, so there's no reason to be intimidated by the rocks. The only downside is that they take a long time because they're so hard.
I'm still waiting for my box to arrive. Seeing all the great pictures isn't making the wait any easier! I'm hoping it will be here today.

I have no problem with anyone cutting, grinding or anything else to get their best 10 rocks possible. That's how I interpret rule #3. I won't cut or grind but that's because I don't have these tools. I will break some into smaller pieces with a hammer. This is all about having fun. I know I will. This will be my second completed batch so I know I have zero chance of even placing, just getting some shine on my rocks would be a victory for me and I'd be happy. I'm going to write down everything I do from weight of rocks to grit used and so on. If it turns out ok then I know I'm headed in the right direction. Good Luck to everyone.

I have no issue with people cutting/grinding/breaking before they start. I would say when they arrive start your process. Agates and Jaspers are very hard so the more time you give to the tumble the better.
