Wow!hope she whelps them ok. We let our female Black Pug have two litters, then had her spayed. Her first litter she had to have a C section, but the second went smooth as could be. Puppies are irresistible!!!

Puppies are irresistible!!! Pugs and bulldogs often need C-sections. Puppies are cute, and a lot of work. Mamma is due this morning. She is digging in the welping bed and breathing 200 times a minute, full contractions .Probably within 6 hours she will start. The first litter is most probable to be a C-sec, after that chances are reduced. Don't like weekend arrivals as the vets are not easily available.

I really did not want to spend Memorial Day weekend as assistant midwifeman. But things are coming out smoothly. Maggot is calm and attentive. Am at #4 at 10:15 (a few minutes ago). 1rst one at 8:45AM. Going fast. Wife up all night and snapping at me. i did not breed this dog. ha. same story every time. Denise sitting up asleep. Vulnerable to trickery, nah, probably a bad idea. 3 minutes before her first pup, tail humped and she is in great stress. 1rst one always rough. 8:45AM 10:15AM, #4 at 10;20AM

Awwww! Glad it is going smoothly so far... grandpa. Ha! Yeah, we know who gets to take care of them , and we all know you LIKE IT, too. Who wouldn't like grand dogs?
Any thoughts on how many more?

Any thoughts on how many more? Well, #7 popped out at noon Jean. Sonogram said 7, they usually miss one. She is being a great Mom. Sometimes Mom is the problem and not the pups. Wanna stay up around the clock for the next week and puppy sit ?

Um, let me think about that... No, thank you! That would be a resounding no thank you.
C'mon, James, just think how how much fun y'all are gonna have with them after that. Oh, forgot about the whining, whimpering, feeding (when mom is nearing done with them) and most of all, the clean up. Tell me again, whose idea was this?

We need some cash flow. Bad reason but. Hard earned money in the end. The demand for this breed has really gone up and prices went with demand. And I like stacking them into a pyramid of jelly rolls. Young Maggot launched at harmless Gi Gi when she walked in the door. Hmmmm, looks like we got a protective young Mama. After about 3 weeks of nursing and cleaning she will want to give them away. Happens every time. Good Mama = easy litter. She is in the house where it is cool and bug free. So far she is above and beyond call of duty. yea

Congrats!! Glad to see everything came out okay. (Assuming no one was late to the party. . .) She is done Bill. She had them very fast and all signs are that the last is out. Often the last pup causes trouble. This dog is a hunter and a runner. She is in par excellent shape. That helps. 3 girls and 4 boys-plenty of cigars to go around. One has a white leg which disqualifies her as a show dog. The others may be show quality. That is wife's concern. She screens many attributes for breeding program. DNA testing is common place in selecting mates. eyes, ears, numerous joints, cancer occurrence, thyroid, heart. They are big dogs and a relatively new breed. Not overbred at all. Structurally very sound. For instance, bad hip joints is rare. Rarely see one limping or lame even though they roll each other at high speeds. Chest tackles are mode of operandi.

Glad it went well for all concerned
After our Pugs litter by natural birth, we took her to the vet for an X ray to make sure there wasn't a puppy left unbirthed. As you mentioned, Pugs and Bulldogs are notorious for c sections and retaining the last puppy. That is how I became acquainted with Pugs in the first place, so am extra cautious. About '88 I was working as a photographer at a Newspaper and was sent to take photos of a male Pug that was caring for the litter after the female died of infection due to retaining a puppy. It was a black male and he would clean them and cuddle them just like a mommy. I fell head over heels in love with Pugs and swore to get one someday. At this point, we have 5! Every time anyone we know finds a Pug being not taken care of properly, they get it and bring it to us. Our oldest is 14 and the next two are 13, so it will soon be time to shed some tears at their passing. There is some comfort in knowing we have provided them a wonderful and healthy life, but it will still be very hard and they will be missed every day

Darn dogs are unconditional in their giving. Makes their passing too difficult. It is respectful and rewarding to rescue. Hats off to you. I get sick of breeders and some of their motives. we are strongly against puppy mills and will not deal w/them. most of our females have had 2, some 3 litters over their lifetime. Those 3 dogs represent a large chunk of your life. Losing them will be difficult no doubt. But better than if they were never able to live a full life. If you have 5 you must fine pleasure from them !!
