This board should be about sharing, not making money. The only exception (and I haven't seen it here personally) is a long time member who is having financial problems and needs to liquidate inventory. If you want to sell here you should be a long time member in good standing or offer some kind of formal buyer protection. I am active on a cigar board that has a lot of trading and selling activity. The board is a kind of "brotherhood of the leaf" and the behavior is a lot like this board. Treating newbies well and sending out gift packages to other members without any expectation of reciprocation. Based on my experiences on that board, there is always a risk with an unprotected trade. Desperate times for a member can result in desperate behavior. One of the warning signs is offering a lot of things for sale unless there is a reasonable explanation. Past experience and references is not a 100% guarantee. When a situation like this arises, the best thing is to start small to limit your exposure and wait for the goods to arrive or other feedback to be posted.

Thanks Jim for the props. I have only been burned once and it happened to a few members. The long standing member had a great record of good sales and a great reputation for quality threads. She didn't ship goods after payment. I paid as a gift on PayPal knowing her good reputation. She had not been back to RTH and I hoe she is doing okay. That being said folks I've made many trades and sales with while brand new and now more RTH seasoned, I've had wonderful experiences with. Before I ever contact a a member with an item of interest. I throughly go through not created threads and posting before deciding to make a jump to buy. It's just good practice and I believe it has kept me out of getting screwed by scamming. I admit though I haven't been contributing to giving props to great seller thread. Keeping that active is much more positive then reading about quality members getting screwed. Past experience and references is not a 100% guarantee. When a situation like this arises, the best thing is to start small to limit your exposure and wait for the goods to arrive or other feedback to be posted. In other places i have seen people buy stuff on ebay and sell it for more... I find this rather rude and disrespectful as they are only in for the profit. Some people that have an abundance of a material (or can get it from a good producing site), along with people who don't have a use for material (or its not for their local market) are the people who I like to see posting regardless of the hobby / website structured like this. I would not think it to be good if someone posting cabs they made on here to sell specifically (something special I can see). just my opinion but if people want to sell to make money i guess that is really up to that person trying to sell.. If people are in it soly for the profit than they will get that reputation. The way i pretend to look at it in the way of scammers is that unless i have dealt with the person weather i'm the buyer or seller i look at everyone as a potential scammer (unless i have dealt with them before to have that trust relationship). There are 3 means which i accept payments... paypal (prefurred), MO, or cash at the persons own risk... If they send cash or MO, i always video record opening the package. Paypal if your friend though. The best way to tell if someone wants to scam you is if they do not send you good stable photos of whatever (even after you notify them).. if they only send you shaky photos, at least i won't deal with them unless they send it and i was to pay upon recieving if it is valid (or send back) Only been scammed once (facebook) but i always pay through paypal so no problems. is that what you mean by sharing stardiamond?

sorry I do not have a lot of time to post, but I do understand why it only takes one bad apple to ruin the whole barrel. I was going to sell too, trade was more like it but I have lots of life ahead of me, and I cant sit in front of this computer that I can barely type on and try to reach 1000 posts or whatever number you all come up with. I do plan to post my homemade tumbler, and other stuff, and who knows I just might hit 1000 posts, but in the mean time I am going to enjoy this RTH blog, and sell elsewhere in the meantime. have a great day.

Don't give up so easy. I do believe you had only made a few post then wanted to sell or trade. That upsets a few people on here. I do know that if you were to post pictures of what you have and the price or trade was right somebody would bite. If things went well the person would say something good and further sales or trades would happen.
By the way people on this board, including me, have been screwed by members with many posts!......................................MrP

obsidian man, what MrP said, don't give up so quick. Truthfully, there is no minimum number of posts set in stone before one can sell. More of a guideline, actually. However, that said, folks on this forum will feel more inclined to purchase or trade with a person that has been a participating member for awhile. We do tend to get upset when a new member's first post is an offer to sell, or if that person is belligerent. While large numbers are no guarantee that a buyer doesn't get burned by a long time member, it definitely improves the odds that you won't. And if you are long time acquaintances, there's a better chance you'll be able to work it out, than with a stranger. As someone mentioned before, this forum is NOT first and foremost a place to sell, it is more a place to share things and exchange ideas. Selling is a perk reserved for members that contribute. Non-contributors can do what other business people have to do elsewhere, namely, pay for their advertising and opportunity to sell. Seems to me when you first posted, you had several members that were interested in what you had to offer, and said they would PM you. Maybe they did, and you don't know what a PM is? If that's the case, speak up! Anyone here will be more than happy to help you out. I know what you mean about not having time to post, a reason why I limit myself to this forum only. So, stick around a little, share some of your knowledge with us, post some pics, and let people get to know you!

I've been more or less silent on this forum for the last couple of months. One of the reasons is exactly what Snuffy mentioned. I try to warn people, and at the same time try to inform newbie sellers of our unwritten policy of 50 posts first before selling. For doing so, I've been repeatedly blasted by members. So for that reason I have chosen to keep silent when I see a newbie trying to sell within the first few posts. I instead report the person to our mods, and let them handle it. On several occasions, I have come very close to removing myself from this forum. I'm still on the fence about that. I'm sick and tired of being the punching bag for others on this forum, (mostly newbies themselves). If my silence means that some of you get burned by newbie sellers, then tough luck. You wouldn't listen when I was trying to warn you. By being burned, maybe you'll learn your lesson. Don if the people that are the back bone of this forum leave then it will be a place thats not what mark had intended ! if your being blasted by people for trying to help let us all know who this may be ! if we cant say what we fill is rite and best for all here then its time to clean house
