Found this in the bone yard. I saw 2 king snakes there last year, one about 6 feet and one close to seven feet long. This skin 6'6" and tail missing. Lots of junk laying around for mice, toads and less fortunate food snakes for the king. i got the kings, they like the abundant water snakes here.

Wow, that's a very large king snake skin, jamesp. Looks like you can see where it's head is at? Are you having it for supper? Just kiddin' with you. About a week after the 4th, I almost picked up a snake skin. Thought it was remnants of bottle rocket. Not sure who wore this skin, but we've seen ring-necked snakes and copperheads in our yard.

actually that is not that large for a kingsnake on Jim's property.
Jim has a wingspan of approximately 6 feet (give or take 6 inches). So that skin is 6ft. The snakes themselves get that big on his land. BUT, a shed skin is 20-25% longer than the snake itself is. This because the underside of every scale the entire length of the snake is unfolded when cast off. A 6' shed skin is ONLY a five foot snake (ish)!! lol
Jim I likey you got so many herps on your land!

Too big for ringnecks. Could be copperhead. Could be almost anything. garter, water, king, corn, rat, rattle [snake]......

I figured they stretch. I do have some big kings. 20 years ago It was Copperheads, now all I see is Kings. And the Copperheads were unusually long. We cherish the king snakes, we assume they eat mice. Mice a problem, getting into stuff.

"I almost picked up a snake skin."
'Almost', as in over coming fear Jan ? I let the dogs smell it and they said it was time to go. They DO NOT like snakes.
Brad going to kill the skin. Like it is a ghost.

You got us beat, ours is only a little over 5 feet. We saw the snake that shed it several times during one summer. I put it on display inside a fluorescent tube protective cover. Great mouse eaters.

I didn't think of that, maybe look into it. Funny, some who see it say "wow, cool", and others get the willies just seeing that "ghost". It is about 3 times longer than most found here. I've always been fascinated by snake skins, like shedding organic clothing that has become outgrown.

I was at the junkyard yesterday Ed. I found a super pressure cooker in the aluminum pile. Weighed 22 pounds and paid $32 for it. It is a hoss. Must be for some industrial use. Has a manual ball valve release, pop off valve and 0-200 pressure gauge, all threaded in the top hatch. Looks nuclear. I think I could get 2 human heads in it, maybe three. I will show you a photo. Oh, and the seal is rubber free, it has a taper that seals metal to metal, hatch to pot. 8 hinged bolts, sublime indeed.
