@sjamesp it was a big gas burning grill with charcoal. The smoke seemed to have a magnetic attraction to me no matter where I stood. I didn't know that the sugar and spices, or the wood had anything to do with it. I figured it was how the wind blew and that magnetic attraction! It was after you. Perhaps magnetism.Hopefully metal does not stick to you

Similar idea to a Rocket stove. Burns hotter with less smoke. spirit, I welded up a stove out of 16 inch pipe about 42 inches long laid horizontal. Put a 6 inch pipe off the back also horizontal about 12 inches long and made a 90 degree straight up off of it about 12 inches long so a flue pipe would slide over that 12 feet tall. Door and slide vent on the other side. All 3/16 steel except the vertical stove pipe. When that thing started heating up it would begin to resonate like a flapper jet engine about 100 times a minute. It would shoot ashes and coals 5-6 feet out of the little vent on the door side at that 100 per minute rate. You could adjust the slide vent to make it stop, but why did it do that. Never could figure it out. But it is a real subject of conversation and amazement for those that see it. When it resonated like that the whole 16 inch pipe would turn cherry red because of the violent air flow. I gotta make a Youtube video of that thing. it was built from an Amish Wood water heater, which is a 12 inch pipe inside of a 16 inch pipe with 2 end plates. Water was heated between the two pipes. I did not like it so I torched the 12 inch pipe out of it so it would hold more wood. Here is an image:

LOL, like to see this on vid. Sounds like a forge. The vent must of acted as a oxygen control like on a torch.

The guys in the fab shop thought it was cool also.

I bet it throws a lot of heat in your shop. If it wasnt so darn loud it would work great keeping the vehicles from freezing up when we hit that -40 below at night. I dont think my neighbor would appreciate hearing the sound of a pulse jet all night long. I dont like him anyways, wouldnt matter. LMAO.

The fuel is cheaper and it will run longer. When me and some friends first cranked that stove up we were laughing our azzes off till it shattered the double pane window next to it. Window behind chair in last photo

Why have a rocket mounted to a trailer that goes no where and wastes valuable fuel ? Is that your question ?

no. why have an inverted wood burning rocket? I sure did not plan it that way. But if those guys are going to build a rocket they might as well make it so that it burns wood instead of expensive fuel. I dislike that trait in my wood stove. It is dangerous in that it creates a fire hazard. And it blew out my dang window.

I meant the firepit. Why have that configuration in the firepit?

I meant the firepit. Why have that configuration in the firepit? It keeps the smoke high. allows you to burn greener wood. allows leaves to be burned it burns hot enough to burn used motor oil it puts out radiative heat due to hotter burn looks cool Mostly to get rid of the lazy low lying smoke, everyone complains about that. already have 2 orders for them, they sell = #1 new reason

The best reason.
Probably takes longer to get the heat radiating, but then it lasts a long time.

The best reason. Probably takes longer to get the heat radiating, but then it lasts a long time. Scott, that thing takes off like a rocket, and eats fuel due to the high air flow over the coals. it is a bit exponential, the hotter it gets the faster the air rises out of the top hole and the faster it sucks air in over the coals. It needs a slide gate on the top hole to control it, an easy task. Welded up more configs today, including a bigger one. The idea hit me between the eyes last week. I knew immediately it would work. It would also work as an mini incinerator. still got some dialing in to do. wicked effect for a party. Was too drafty tonight to take night photos.

jamesp Did you ever get it fired up after dark to see if it glows?
