I am not sure if this is the right place to put this. I tried flintknapping but it's not going very good. I can't get it to flake off in bigger pieces. well I guess back to the video's here is what I had done today. I got tired so I will try and finish them another day... the first two I started the red one is the third one and the darn blister I got URL=http://s1169.photobucket.com/user/Tormaschy1/media/20141105_151221_zps0f12c65e.jpeg.html] [/URL]

I tried some obsidian. I was bleeding so bad in less than five minutes that I gave it up. You definitely need gloves.

Those look good to me! If gloves are too cumbersome, you could just use one leather finger either cut from a glove, or from riogrande.com. Rio sells the fingers that fit snug. I use them when wrapping wire into coils for jump rings.

Mexican fisherman cut short lengths of bicycle tubes to protect their fingers from fishing line cuts. Might work for knapping as well. Its an art that once mastered will consume your attention and efforts. Enjoy. Tom

I tried a glass bottle bottom first it was much easier to chip and didn't take as much pressure (I am not that strong anymore) but I got all cut up. I was using my husbands leather work gloves but they were too big and clumsy so I took the one off and the little glass Shards just cut the heck out of my hand. and still could not get the big chips to come off it ended up in the trash with the rest of the bottle. after doing the agate though my arms, Hands, and chest muscles were sore as heck, I will have to keep trying I will get it sooner or later. any info from knappers would be helpful. "I just want to wrap one already"...HEHE If I get one done I will post pictures.

Thanks deserthound I appreciate the offer I do have some obsidian slabs but don't want to ruin them. I am trying bottle bottoms for practice, did some more today but having trouble getting bigger flakes I think I figured it out. It's the angle and pressure I just have to get it right. I am gonna try again tomorrow. Here's the ones I did today. The first one I did today the second one

Your home maid tool looks exactly like the one I made. I also have intended to try flint knapping... one of these days i'll get around to it. I have a local guy that I can learn from hopefully.

Glennz01 Give it a try it is fun and (a workout for me anyways). It pretty cool to see what a person can create if they try and don't give up, if it doesn't turn out the first time. Never give up is one of my motto's for life and you will never know if you can do it if you don't try... Good luck
