This year we are hunting on family land. I have picked it back up for the first time in about 25 years and am getting back into the hang of things...slowly. Hunting now in Louisiana is very different than when I was growing up. I did not still hunt much, as it mean't sitting out in the cold on a stump or a 10' or so ladder tree stand. I almost exclusively dog hunted. We used lemon spotted walker dogs (I raised almost all of them) that could run like the wind. Just before I went to college, we had transitioned to walker/blue tick crosses. Better cold nose and not quite as fast as the walkers as land was beginning to be leased and our hunting range went from just about everywhere to certain places. Now, the few folks that hunt with dogs at all use beagles, because they are slow and can be cut off; Walkers can hit a wild deer and literally leave the country. Most hunters now are still hunting and that is mostly done from box stands. We, my brother-in-law and me, have built a couple of stands (shooting houses) and have set up. We will change some things next year because a couple of big bucks have been pooing on us all year. It seems the rut has fizzled this year, been a weird year I'm told by those in the know, and now our only shot at those big boys is to hit em later after the acorns sour. We have had little rain in North Louisiana, so the ground is literally still covered in acorns and it is not all that cold there, not helping matters. Anyway, this is a quick summary Here is a early morning view from my stand This is the buck that my brother-in-law took early in the season This is the deer I shot Wednesday And the next three are of some of the big boys that have been pooing on us. My Brother-in-law saw one chasing a doe earlier in November but could only shoot him in the butt so did not take the shot. He was not pleased lol Two of these could possibly be the same deer and here is why we stopped seeing deer this week. So bright that you can walk out at night without a flash light

No but have room for one. It turned out a bit bigger than I was planning. I built side here in Baton Rouge and then put it together in Union Parish and it just kept growing and growing lol. That thing is pretty damn heavy. I will have a heater in it next year though.

That thing is pretty damn heavy. I will have a heater in it next year though. Three Russian guys at my friend's deer camp built a tree house. Those guys sleep in it. And heat it. and they got in trouble for night hunting out of it LOL. Looks like you added to it to the point it is heavy, whatever makes Ash comfortable. sweet I shot one out of my bathroom window one day. Several off the deck. I got your sign. It is ready for your wife's viewing pleasure. Will you hang it above the bed ?? PM address.

Sad to see such a beautiful animal killed... I have them roaming thru my property all the time. They are gentle peaceful creatures that don't deserve a bullet in my opinion. Obviously have not hit one with a vehicle, or eaten one....................MrP

So are cows and chickens and fish and all the other sources of meat. If you eat meat you have their blood on your hands. Here in Georgia over-population has devastating effects on deer herds. The health of the herd depends on hunters reducing the population. Starvation is not a good alternative. Me and you have populated their natural environment....

How could you murder Bambi?
So much more humane to watch them starve to death or tumbled under a big rig.

I'm a city/suburb kid, but husband grew up in the woods of Washington. Family of eight lived on venison. During depression and out of hunting season, in order to feed his family, his dad killed a deer that a was about ten feet from their house. Sheriff jailed him for hunting out of season. One month in jail. Jailer taught him a dozen games of solitaire. Six kids and wife without him around. Stupid!
