Like many, I've been absent for months. Haven't done much as we have been planning our studio/workshop (which is going up next week!! Whoohooo!!) Most of my work has been cleaning up the 5 lbs of beautiful Chalcedony formations...lots of work with the dremel. Hopefully, will be posting new designs with those in a few months. In November my local Gem & Mineral club held their annual show, including a Juried show. We couldn't pass up the opportunity, so I designed a show piece, my husband cabbed the British Columbia Jasper and I started to wrap. Here's the first look at the design - I decided to calm down the swirly activity after looking at this picture Here are the pieces all connected looking at the backside The rules said everything handmade in our category, so made a jump-ring chain. Have to admit, I've been staying away from jump-ring projects as they intimidated me. Doing this was so much fun, I made another 22 inch chain afterwards. The finished necklace on it's display! I'm pretty happy with this one. The judges didn't quite agree with me, was told we would have taken 1st place if (and I quote) "the artist knew what stone she really was working with". After the judge told me that we had a discussion and ended with disagreeing. Went to Google that night and found numerous pics of the same stone, named the same way. Oh well LOL Michelle

GORGEOUS PIECE!!! Accchhhhh- screw them. I think it is a first class piece. You could have simply said jasper and you would have been right. Man, that would make me mad. But, you must be pleased with your great work way, anyway.

Will be hard to sell it, but the hubby says I must. I WAS angry for a couple of days. Now I'm amused, it makes for a good first timer story! She insisted it wasn't jasper at all, had to be an agate. Blew my mind LOL

I always heard BC Ocean Stone or Ocean Wave Agate. Anyway, nice hos the cabs taper in size. Probably the source of the confusion. When I bought the slab, the owner took 20 minutes to tell me why it can't be called simply Ocean Jasper (Madagscar has trademarked the name...I think) This stone was around prior to the overseas stuff, so (I was told) as long as one inserts British Columbia in front there's no issue. No matter, I fell in love with the stone and wanted to do an integrated piece. Thanks for the compliment, that was the intention - much harder in the execution

Judges can be so power drunk. Because he has never heard of your stone he thought you referred to another and he dinged you.
Sucks

Nicely done! can I ask....what did you use to give such a great shine on your BC jasper? Mine, I havent found what I missed for that added shine. It is a little dull looking, compared to what you have accomplished. Thanks.

It is a little dull looking, compared to what you have accomplished. Thanks. Nothing special, we worked it down in increments finishing up with a 50,000 grit. This was done on our garage grinding wheels. We have learned the hard way to scrupulously clean each belt after use and to wash the stone several times between grit. It really does make a difference. I polished the silver with a dremel, left the stone alone as we haven't had good luck with any of the polishes on stones.

Thought I could get away with a less grit like most jaspers can take.
