Today, the parking Nazis in the city of San Diego made my day - NOT! Went to my dad's this morning, and parked to the south of his driveway. Was about four feet over the edge of the driveway, but did not block his driveway. He was able to get his car in and out past the nose of my truck, no problem.
Within 12 minutes of parking there, a civil servant for the city was earning their keep by adding money to the city coffers. Can you believe a parking ticket for $57.50??? WTF?? No one called them, there was no emergency or any reason for them to write it. Where I live, in an unincorporated area of the county, there are cars parked on the street that are not registered, are not driven, have flat tires, and are held to the ground with cobwebs. Nobody cares!
I was so pissed, but I know that there is no way out of it. Will suck it up and pay it. Gull dang it!!! Forty-two years driving, and this is the first parking ticket I've had... Bunch of jack asses.
EDIT - The reason I was part way in the driveway was because the neighbor's small truck was parked behind me. You can't see it in the photo.

I believe that is called revenue enhancement, too many places use it a little too freely. Yes, that stinks.

I'm sorry to hear about the parking ticket, rockpickerforever, especially since you can see in your pics that you weren't blocking the drive, even have your front wheels turned away from the driveway, and that there was plenty of room for someone to leave the drive. Around here during the holidays, law enforcement is out in full force patrolling the roads and holding traffic stops.

Thanks for the commiserations, friends. Yes, it does stink.
Pat, yes, it is a stupid ticket. Guess I'm the stupid part of that equation, should have known better...

Another reason to love rural living. I'd have been pissed as Hell to get a ticket for something so stupid. Like someone said, no fairness or common sense to it, just another way for the city to get money for nothing.
I used to work in a office with virtually no close by parking but emergency calls sometimes meant I had to get into work fast. Parking lot right across the street with a ton of spaces and maybe one or two cars at most, but if you parked there, even in your government vehicle, you got towed. Man that used to fry my ass.......Mel

I was over in Hot Lanta yesterday and ran a traffic light. Did not know I ran it until my wife told me. I am just hoping a camera did not catch me. If so, I will be paying a fine too. I just hate driving in Atlanta especially anywhere around Cobb and Cherokee Counties in the northwest sections.

Hope the camera didn't catch you, too, garock! Driving through Hotlanta is a scary experience.

I did not sign a promise to appear and they have no proof I even am aware of the "violation". After some time, they just go away. YMMV I'll be in Hotlanta in two weeks. Looks like Jim wont be home. Any other Georgians wanna meet up for a meal or beverages? rockpickerforever, I should be in Q too! Need to sort out sleeping arrangements for saturday night.

I grind Fords up and use them for fuel in the Toyota. Fine = $45 Mandated state surcharge = $12.50 ?? And that is ? Only one solution to law enforcement-stay as far away as possible. Looks like you were parking politely, using some of your Dad's access. That's a bad way to start the New Year Jean. And to think you pay taxes to support such. A well to do Fayette county subdivision requires pick ups to be parked in the garage. Come on now, this is America. Atlanta is a small town compared to LA, Scott, you should have no trouble here. What part of town are you going to be ?

Big cities stink. After spending some time recently close or close enough to downtown Chicago as I want to get I was finally able to find some free parking. It's on I-94 trying to leave town, just costs the price of gas at idle so that's about 2.50 an hour now. Practically free ! The bonus entertainment of watching survival of the fittest of battles between small impatient cars and large trucks is fascinating. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. I like seeing the stars through the trees.

I'll let the first comment slide, James, lol. Oh, you like how they add the "surcharge?" And "state mandated," so it's like they are being forced to add it, it's out of their control. Oh well, the state has mandated it, so that makes me feel better. Fees, assessments, surcharges. Call it what they want, it's still money out of my pocket! Bunch of money grubbers. Sad thing is, they use an external collecting agency, so some of that fine is coming right off the top to pay for that. If you think that's steep for a parking ticket, you should see what they get ya for moving violations. I got the ticket on Dec 29, so actually it was an end of year treat for me. I wrote a check and mailed it Dec 31. My generous dad gave me a fifty towards it, thanks, dad. Thanks everyone for your comments. I'm getting over it, not quite seething anymore.

The Fulton County government has contracted out much of their responsibilities out say they can sit on their arse. That is entirely ludicrous. We pay them, they pay contractors. They (Fulton County Govt) sent those contractors to collect from me a license fee. I sent the contractor off my property and told them the charge is between me and the government. I don't pay 3rd person entities. Who are you ? How do I know you are not fake ? They never came to collect. Because the govt is too lazy. Burns me a new one. This will dissuade the little parking ticket maid
