How did you join the ends of the string that goes around the neck? James B

what stone is this? I do not have a clue Scott. At pow wow last year I bought a bunch of stone that the vendor said came out of a rusty bucket with Wyoming nephrite written on the outside so I assumed it was jade. It is not jade because it broke when I was trying to make a ring out of it. Easy to see on the break that it is not jade. The black has chatoyance like feldspar so that is one possibility but it has to have something heavy mixed in if it is. Gave some to Frank on the other forum and he can not ID it. Jim

Hell yea, now that you mention it there is a tiny streak of pink/red through it that looks like a healed fracture. WHAT I GOT, WHAT I GOT, WHAT I GOT. Jim

Jim The stone I have came from Tennessee rock shop and was labelled unakite. Chuck and Rob disagree saying the black disqualifies it as unakite. No matter, if it is, it's low grade with almost no pink. The rock shop folks said that it came from a Tennessee "mine" and was their last piece until next order was delivered. Is it possible you got that in my free rock sale last year?? It is so similar it looks like a cutoff from my sphere!! The sphere has black feldspar with the shiller you might expect. Needa better pic.

If the olivine/epidote is very very dark, it can look black, I guess technically if that has happened here, then it is unakite. Just doesn't appear to be unakite because the green is so dark. little pendant, meet your momma. Don't you love a story with a happy ending?

I think it's just granite myself. The rock store called it unakite. The black part is feldspar and the green is ... well.... green stuff. There is a nice rose/orange/pink stripe in it similar to real unakite.

Needa better pic. Hornblende is super common in these parts Scott. Could that be the black component ? It occurs in many textures with quartz, felspar, quartzite, gneiss', gabbro, schist etc It can also create needles and behave like black tourmaline. Probably the most common black component of Appalachian minerals. It glitters strongly when water worn

That does look really really similar but the pieces I have do not look like stuff from prepping a sphere. And mine has no green. The black is super black and the light colored stuff is yellow or ?off yellow.
I will round up more pics when I am finished eating breakfast. Jim

Not my cutoff.
Definitely the same thing as my sphere.
You can even see shiller in at least one pic.
Does hornblende have shiller?

@wampidy, I had to try this. I just did a quick mockup to see how it worked. I used some waxed linen cord and real fast wire twist to close it.
This is a really fast and simple way to make a wrap! I didn't spend anytime on the bail - but this is a brilliant wrapping technique
I think they will probably need a little glue - at least for me. I am not sure how well the cord will stay on without it.
Thank you for posting this!

That cord looks real nice with that stone. Is the stone grooved? I would not make one without glue but there may be a problem gluing wax so a different cord might be best. Also with the slight inside curve there would have to be glue there. Jim

Waxed cord would not work for a real wrap, but it is all I had on-hand. After I made it home today, I had your wrap on my mind so I tried it with what I had handy. Using cord is a fantastic idea! Thank you again for sharing it! Roger

Nice wraps, Jim. Way to think out of the box! I might guess you have something in the Epidote/Zoisite family. SG's right. We have a jet black Rhodonite out my way that sometimes contains Zoisite or Epidote. Could be a possibility.

Interesting, I bet it would sell around here with hemp twine to the NW hipsters.

I tried this technique and the super glue did not stick to the cab. did I miss something and you have grooved the cab?
