Rules: Nothing has changed, Entries are not required to be started in the time frame of the contest, only finished by the deadline. All entries however will still require a photo of the slab, preform and finished cab. So no cabs pulled from the drawer. Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs can not be entered in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. Again, please remember to include a pic or two of the original slab, then a pic of the preform, and finally, the finished cab. We ask that all entries submitted to this contest be unique to the RTH version of the Killer Cab Contest. I will do my best to monitor the other forums for duplicate entries, and any duplicates will be disqualified. You can enter any shape cab and your choice of mineral. Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the material, the process or what ever else you would like to share. Cabs posted here are only for the contest. I have a small request, because I am not always 100% confident in identifying all materials, if everyone could do their best to remember to ID the material (even if it may seem obvious) it would help me at times, I get concerned I will make a mistake if I guess when I am creating the poll. If you have no idea on the material, that's perfectly OK too I have entered my fair share of mystery materials, there is no shame in saying "not sure what this is", usually we get some ID help through out the contest too which is a bonus. Good Luck everyone! Carleton

well what are all waiting for no one wants to go first lol! will finish mine after work then Well i'll go first in that case, but I reserve the right to change the cab (within this month) if I change my mind.. but I don't think I will.. I haven't fully decided though:P This is, to my knowledge, Chrysocolla and Tenorite. (Made from the left most piece)

Been a while since I have been on here, more medical drama in my life I don't need, but anyways......... I was doing the Cabbing demo for my clubs annual rock show and 1 of the vendors, a member of the club also, gave me a piece of Syn Quartz for a steal so I figured I would cab it to see what happens. I didn't do any before and after photos, I actually did this as part of the demo on cabbing so I figured I'd enter it here now that it is done. The corners are removed because 1 of them chipped away while shaping so I cut the corners and brought the line up and across the face of the cab, both sides, and I think it came out rather nicely. So here it is, my double sided pillow cut syn quartz cab. all criticisms appreciated as this material is new to me.

Nice cab, to show the polish just put the camera angle at a 90 degree angle and use camera flash... I always get a bright shine of the polish when I do they trying not to get the polish.

I think the photos came out retty good, when you open them up you can see some depth to the stone, a hallmark of a good polish, so I think they came out well!!

got no chance against Chucks Bruno...something to aspire to. In any case I have to cab to improve. Also have to work on the photography.

You also use a a lot of self collected materials so extra points for that In my opinion there are three main elements to a great cabochon. The first is the equipment. It can be hard for someone just starting with minimal equipment to compete with others that have a full shop of goodies. The second thing is the material. Its easy to create breath taking cabs when you can afford or have access to breath taking slabs. The third thing is just experience. This part just takes some time. Chuck
