Well we call this stuff silicated volcanic ash... the cut is not my rock (found by a friend) the top one I just found today. There is an area that has this stuff all over the place as well.

i'll probably bring back 15 lbs of it when I go to the river since I have my saw... last time I didn't have means of cutting so I didn't take the large stuff.

If you guys want some i'll be willing to pick it up. throw me a pm. If I don't have access to an atv I can't cross the creek (more like a river) so I wouln't find as much most likily. There is a lot that is not as highly silicated but they all look the same when cut, just doesn't take the highest polish Not sure when i'm going to cut it, I have a few pieces from last year I haven't cut yet. I'll post some other types of volcanic ash I can find as well, but in one area that type is common. its just a long drive away

There is soo much of it (usually) that I never really thought about selling the stuff and normally passed most of it up as junk because it it a long drive a decent hike. If people really want it pm me an offer I can't refuse I want to go to that place this weekend... if not I probably will next weekend. maybe I should start taking some photos of some other stuff I normally pass up as well There is a jasper like substance that looks like bloodstone in a way that I find everywhere.

Beautiful material. If you want to sell it on ebay, come up with an interesting name and call it a new find.

The black one is fine. So could it be rhyolite ?

Yeah, I'm with James, looks like highly silicified rhyolite which would explain the variation in the amount of silica. Some rhyolite can take a glass finish and is awesome while other examples are more porous or less silicified and only take that satin finish. The black example is very cool stuff. The other nodules look to me like standard red and yellow jasper.....Mel

What happened to the picture of the drool worthy faced piece?
And, as to your PM... No, I am not interested in committing to buying rocks sight unseen, nor coming up with a price per pound I would be willing to pay for these unseen, as yet to even be collected rocks. Thanks though.
Go get them first. THEN, post pictures or offer them in the For Sale section. That's how this rock selling and buying thing usually works.

Its still up on the first page.. at least I see it. if you still don't see it let me know. I know that pictures are everything but like I said I haden't planned on selling so throw me a generic poundage price based off the current pic. If the price is reasibible for the work involved I will bring a bit back
