Nice shootin'! So where's the beef venison? Jerky? Andouille sausages?
The deer are not eating acorns yet are they? So the meat is not bitter? I guess you said you had to donate the meat, to prevent creating a black market for venison. Some lucky kids gonna be eating venison. I can't help but remember your dogs helping watching while you made venison jerky, lol. Too funny, bunch of vultures. Too bad they have to miss out on that.
CA has strict rules about not selling game harvested on permits. Probably the number one reason I've never had venison - don't know anybody around these parts that hunts deer. Not even supposed to sell fish legally caught (unless you have a commercial permit). BUT, a friend of mine recently shot a boar (don't know where), and made some different types of incredible edibles. I'll be trading him some hot chili powder from my home grown chilies! A trade made in gustatory heaven. Next stop, a food orgasm!
Ah, c'mon, y'all have had one of those before, right?
I have sawn the horns off and fed them the brain in the top of the skull. If you yell 'deer brains' they will knock you over. Get very animated. I was dragging a deer back to the house behind the 3 wheeler and two of them grabbed it and pulled the the 3 wheeler over on it's side. Or drag a leg around behind the 3 wheeler in a crazy pattern for a mile or two. Let them out and watch them track it. They got noses. When butchering they stay in the house. Permit allows summer kills. Meat tastes much better when they eat foliage and browse by late summer. acorns do make the meat much more gamey. Not many people know this.

A Zimbabwean Just Dropped A Truth Bomb About Cecil The Lion That Americans Need To SeeB. Christopher Agee August 4, 2015 at 4:30pm As much of America continues to demonize the Minnesota dentist who killed an African lion named Cecil during a recent expedition, one Wake Forest University doctoral student shared his unique perspective on the subject. Zimbabwean Goodwell Nzou said he began receiving social media condolences shortly after Cecil’s death. “Cecil who? I wondered,” he wrote in a recent New York Times editorial. “When I turned on the news and discovered that the messages were about a lion killed by an American dentist, the village boy inside me instinctively cheered: One lion fewer to menace families like mine.” Describing the obvious cultural disconnect between how Africans and Americans view vicious wild animals, Nzou said his initial excitement waned when he “realized that the lion killer was being painted as the villain.” He cited the widespread condemnation the hunter received from domestic sources – including one histrionic monologue by talk show host Jimmy Kimmel – in making his point that many Americans have romanticized lions while ignoring their brutality. “In my village in Zimbabwe,” he wrote, “surrounded by wildlife conservation areas, no lion has ever been beloved, or granted an affectionate nickname. They are objects of terror.” He went on to recall his childhood, particularly one incident during which a lion entered his village, killed several farm animals and redefined how he and his siblings ventured outside of the home from that point on. His uncle was injured in a lion attack a short time later, he noted, and the threat soon became so immediate that “no one dared stroll over to a neighbor’s homestead.” While wild animals hold a “near-mystical significance” for those in his native country, Nzou wrote that “our respect for these animals has never kept us from hunting them or allowing them to be hunted.” It was the American “tendency to romanticize animals,” he concluded, that turned an otherwise ordinary hunting expedition into “what seems to my Zimbabwean eyes an absurdist circus.” www.westernjournalism.com/a-zimbabwean-just-dropped-a-truth-bomb-about-cecil-the-lion-that-americans-need-to-see/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=WesternJournalism&utm_content=2015-08-04

bushmanbilly 40 years ago commercial fisherman killed every shark they could. They preferred them extinct. Gators were pursued for their skin and they too almost got wiped out. Now gators are overpopulated in many areas and are creating a menace. Point being. over population of people living with dangerous animals is the animal's worst threat. Two edged sword, held captive by animals and people not able to safely enjoy their surroundings due to man eater. Solution is to eradicate animal. Crocs/hippos/tigers some of the worst on the list. One creek in Florida had two gator attacks in two years. And very few people get in that creek. It is just a bad spot by design. Local folks stifled by the gators owning the creek. One of the finest snorkeling destinations in the state. Apparently shrinking habitat is the biggest problem. Add ranchers that lose their livestock; you know what their solution is. Neighbor is a cattleman, one of his donkeys got caught in vines and brambles. Coyotes killed it. He put sponges out soaked in bacon grease, which plugs up the coyote's intestine and kills him. I guess the guy did what he had to do. Of course, coyotes are open season animal around here.

"Deer Brains!" Funny dogs, they know what they like. Dogs can have extensive vocabularies if their people would just take the time to talk to them. (Or does that just say something about the owner? lol)
Smartest dog I ever had was Shadow, a Shepherd/lab mix. She knew the meaning of lots of words and hand signs.
The one on the right. (White dog is Spunky, brown dog is Timka)
My rock hound
Now back to our regularly scheduled thread...

I guess the guy did what he had to do. Of course, coyotes are open season animal around here. And 200 years ago, wolves, grizzlies and large cats roamed freely in almost every state and province in N. America. If you went by the environuts logic, we are living in their backyards. Only one problem. The city people don't want them in their backyards. But expect us country folk to live with them in peace and harmony. Remember the outcry that came after the transfer of the Canadian Timberwolf to Yellowstone. Central park in NY could handle a few grizzlies and wolves. Remember it was their backyard at onetime!! A while ago in the enviro haven of Bella Coola BC a cougar was making meals of the local pets. A big out cry was made to have it removed by the same people who banned Grizzly hunting on the coast. I'm all for game conservation. What I'm against is the "do as we say not as we do people". Alberta has a over population of Grizzlies thanks in part to our restrictive gun laws. But if one comes near a city. The swat teams are called. In the same note a farmer shoots one to protect his herd and makes the mistake of reporting it. (And doesn't shoot, shovel and shutup) He is branded a murder by the enviro's. Why the double standard? Its their backyard. I posted the Kermit and the Zebra meme on FB. I took a lot of heat over it. Until I replied with this. Funny how the enviro's had no response. If the dentist shot that animal illegally, he should do the time. But one has to wait until all the facts are in the open. Before hanging the guy. He paid for a licencee and booked guides. If the guides ran a foul. Its not his fault. Hunting brings in a lot of income to the country that has a 80% unemployment rate. Around 50% of the $50,000 price tag goes into animal conservation. The rest to the locals and the gov. It is law that the meat goes to the local villagers. With that high of a UI rate. At least the children had a few good meals. A few years ago $1 US would buy $30,000 Zimbabwean dollars. ....... The bill below is real.......... Thanks to all the do gooders out there. This country will likely loose a good revenue source. Can't wait for the enviro's to start sending money to help feed their people now. One lion dies and is more important than 100's of thousand Zimbabwean kids going hungry. Ya think the enviro's and the leftwing media"s hearts are in the right place? Back to the real meaning of the thread.

They trap bears around Salt Springs Florida where the lake front folks live and dump them at Hog Valley 30 miles away knowing darn well those tough asses are going to shoot them. Same ole schnitt. The well-to-dos do not want them in their territory. Send the animals to low income town. Squeaky wheel rules. And complain about extinction. Poor countries that have to wash in the river near crocs and hippos really have high attack rates bushmanbilly. You know the town hero is going to be the hunter that kills the offending animal. Can't blame them. Their child just got scarfed up; what would you do ?

When I met my wife I put a note on the visor 'call Dogwoman'. That was her name, she was at the vet the first two times I tried to solicit a date. She found the note and knew what it was about. It's OK rockpickerforever, the dog owned you and trained you well. Owner relative...

Shoot, I get almost trampled by white tails every day. Have so many of the dang things that the tamest will follow me in the house if I'm not careful to shut the deer fence gate. I'm a real animal lover though and don't hunt so there ya go. I even love all the skunks and dillos we have around the yard.
Got to say I don't like people all that much and I'd probably save a dog or a horse first, depending on the person of course....Mel

Can't blame them. Their child just got scarfed up; what would you do ? They do that here too. Trap the problem bears from the urban areas and parks. Dump them off in the rural areas for the country folk to deal with. A lot of small miners are pissed about that. Nothing like having a bear around that has been fed by tourists. Same as the poorer counties, I would and have shot problem animals. Mostly coyotes, foxes, skunks and dogs that don't stay at home. We had a rule out in the country were I grew up. A dog is no good if he strays from the farm. A few of our dogs bit the bullet from neighbors to. There would be a warning call to the neighbors asking what to do about it. First time they or us would come and pick it up. The second call was to tell them or us that the dog was back. And the answer most of the time was shoot it. Before people freak about this. We have lost a lot of stock to straying dogs. They can make a mess if they get in the chicken pen. Chase cattle and horses to the point they break through the fences. Our biggest problem now is Moose. Fish and game had a bright idea to relocate here. One problem, they left the wolves in the north. Now we have way to many. No predators to control them. Farmers are being chased in their own yards. Most end up in the farmers deep freeze. With all them guns in Texas Mel. One would think you would not have a deer problem. Surprised they have not been killed off from diseases that form from over population.

OUTRAGE! AFTER CECIL THE LION KILLED BY DENTIST: REPORTS THAT A PLUMBER HAS NOW MURDERED BELOVED “PANYA” Global outrage and anger trained on Walter Palmer, a Minnesota dentist who paid over $50,000 to hunt and kill “Cecil” the cherished lion from a Zimbabwe’s national park, is now turning toward another tragedy in the animal kingdom: This time, however, the attack was perpetrated by a plumber: “Joe the Plumber,” to be specific. “Panya” the Boar, a well-known and beloved creature in a remote area a few kilometers outside Hwange National Park has been brutally slain by American Samuel Wurzelbacher, better known in the U.S. as Joe “The Plumber.” “Pan” as the Boar was widely referred to by the local community and tourists alike, was a revered member of the southern African landscape until cut down by Joe the Plumber, and a new swarm of worldwide outrage and condemnation is growing over the death of the beloved swine. Local farmer Bill “Johnsons” Johnson recalls a long history with what he says was not just a hog, but a longtime friend: In an interview, Johnson recalled; “Panny did wreak havoc on my lands for the past six years… probably cost me $65 grand or more, but I loved him. I’d leave cashews out on my porch and Panny gobbled ’em up. Johnson once lost a couple fingers to Panya while attempting to hand-feed the feral brute, but doesn’t hold a grudge against Wurzelbacher: “He’s a Second-Amendment patriot and we have the right to bear arms or spears, in this case… I am gonna miss Panny though.” Joe the Plumber, a white American admits to destroying the over 400-pound hog Panya while on a hunt for large exotic and supposedly undomesticated boars, using his weapon of choice: A deadly JTP48 Carbon Steel 82-1/8″ Spear. joeforamerica.com/2015/08/outrage-after-cecil-the-lion-killed-by-dentist-reports-that-a-plumber-has-now-murdered-beloved-panya/

bushmanbilly: Sweden may lead the pack with human loss from wild animals. Clear example of human/animal population issues. I believe the leading cause of death in auto accidents in Sweden is from moose impacts. silvis.forest.wisc.edu/research/story/Something-hit-me-Moose-movement-and-vehicle-collisions-northern-SwedenMiddle Georgia known as the 'deer belt'. Healthy browse supports large deer densities. During November when the bucks are running the does the auto/animal impact rate goes up many fold. Rarely fatal though. To determine peak rut I make a 30 mile fixed route in the car and count the dead deer on the road, indicating peak movement. Time to go hunting. Even wife is trained(asked) to report density of car kills when galavanting. The state of Georgia has increased the deer season and bag limit for 7 counties around Atlanta, like Sept-Feb 1. Lobbied by insurance companies. About 4 years ago a state record buck was killed by a car 2 miles from the house. damn P.S. Funny fact- A 15 mile stretch along the ammonium/phosphate rich Chattahoochee River that I live next to has about the highest trophy density in the whole state. This stretch is polluted with ammon/phos by flowing thru Atlanta, chicken farms north of. The dense fog lifts off the river and is blown into the flood plain by the prevailing NE wind. Causing remarkable plant growth; in turn, remarkable deer growth. The industrial district of S. Atlanta along the river is bow only and the most prized hunting lands in the state. Large Atlanta population creates hunter trespassing problems behind the industrial buildings. Lots of arrests. One neighbor pays $1000 a year to hunt a hot 2 acres(a funnel) behind NAPA Auto Parts, and leads the neighborhood in trophy kills. Not so sporting, it is a man made funnel by large buildings.

Moose are the most dangerous animals in Canada. They kill more people than all carnivores combined. Had a lot of close calls myself. One night a few years ago while traveling to Fort Nelson BC. I had over a dozen close calls with moose. Lets just say on that 20 hr drive I did not need coffee to stay awake and alert. Moose blend in with the darkness. Headlights don't pick them up until it almost to late.

A friend of mine lived in a semi rural area where there wasn't much deer and one still managed to run into him and total the front end of his freshly restored (at a pretty price tag) 1970 Chevelle SS. I remember it dearly because he asked me to find another hood for him. (I was a paint and body person at the time.) Man was he pissed! If that deer wasn't already dead, he would of killed it himself with his bare hands!

Actually the female lions do the killing. The males basically fight each other for the females eat the food the females provide and make baby lions. I should date a Lion. And leave the cougars alone.
