Did this come from Stinkingwater? Yes indeed! You sure do know your way around preparing your wood specimens. Wow. What's your method on getting the rind of petrified algae off rounds and limb casts without changing the colors or ruining the piece ?

Not really sure what you are asking, but I try by all means to not destroy or remove the "rind"

Thanks. At first I was sceptical on it, but noticed where it was originally published. I learned a lot from it, but now am even more confused, due to the variety of all the pet wood I found in a 1/4 mile area.

I found a nice chunk at Hampton Butte a few weeks ago and finally got it cut and polished.

Here is my best pet wood find. It has a name - Peter Thomas. 28 inches and about 35 pounds. Yes, it is chained to a wagon wheel in the picture; I have it displayed in our geology exhibit. I found it covered in trash and rotten food in a trash heap outside a local auction house. They had tossed it out of an old car they were selling, thinking it was an ugly fireplace log. It also had flecks of paint on it when I found it, which I spent house flicking off with a pin.

Thanks! My screen is showing a broken link, probably because my internet connection is so bad.
