fossilman Your specimen looks to be opalized wood. That glassy sheen is a giveaway. Keep looking for the fire, it might be in a thin layer.

Ssmall chunk of Stinking Water root ball Oak. I had cut it a while back and was cleaning up the shop and just about tossed it. Instead I finished it up.

I like the small pieces fsrosm Hampton Butte. they make good paper weights and display pieces.

Those two are out of bounds cool! NICE! Really it is one piece. I was going to contour polish the dark end but decided to polish the golden end and keep as a specium.
