Both of those pieces are nice... That Arizona wood is huge!
The chunk of Arizona wood was part of a pile of rocks that the wife bought at an estate sale. She stole a whole lot of nice stuff and got me wanting to go digging. It has been a fun ride.
Is the stinking wood opalized? I saw some similar at a shop and walked away from the opalized part. Probably a mistake, I probably should get a chunk and like it or wreck it.

It is opalized but one heck of lot more stable than common opal which will just crumble as it drys out. the wood really takes a great polish.

I have found stuff at Stinking Water that is agatized, rare but it is there. What I have of it is not Oak. not sure what it is. I need a better sample that shows more structure.
I like that wood, lots. I am in the process of polishing a hunk of Nodak. A gift, not sure where it's from in North Dakota. If it turns out almost that good I will be happy.

I have been using a 4 or 5 inch grinder. I have a neat piece of NoDak worm bored wood. I jobbed out cutting and polishing, it was too large for any saw I ever had. The worm holes really collected grit and rock dust. I have been using diamond pads since then.
The rock is pretty cool in that it has 1/4 inch bore holes throughout, but is fractured along a larger bore hole that terminates in a nesting? cavitity. I really need to get my better half's camera and get some images. Somebody failed to look for macro capabilities when he bought his last camera.

this is how I polish slabs and chunks.
That genius! Thank you so much for keeping this thread alive. Sadly I have t been hounding it seems in a couple years so I donāt have anything really new to share. Maybe Iāll get some out of my bucket, cut, and post some pics of some good stuff

rocknrob: That was one heck of a windstorm that thankfully missed me. I guess Seatac almost hit 60mph gusts. I bet those were some fun landings
