Sometimes stuff happens and you end up with a lot of pieces, CRY! Then you get to work!
It came out pretty good and especially if you are viewing from 10 feet!

Yes Woodman, sometimes pieces are what a guy has to deal with! You did a great job on putting it back together too..(Nice petwood slab) I find ammonites in pieces once in a great while and fit them back together, takes time, for sure... Even built a ammonite from four different broken ammonites, came out great..Took a year to build it though,a little at a time..LOL

I can't resist adding a few AZ petrified wood pieces. The first group I call the "Harley Davidson" series. A couple have been made into pendents. And . . . One used for a special day. And a good knot hole . . from the Rio Puerco of New Mexico

Real nice. I need to unbury my cabbing equipment and do some smaller things. Been hung up on larger chunks for too long. Quit cabbing when the wife could not wear all of what I had made.

I have always liked this slab of Petrified Hickory from Stinking Water. Just a bit different than the Oak one normally finds.

Living in southern Utah, we have access to public lands that are still have quality petrified wood accessible to collectors. When we first started a few years ago, I was finding mostly wood in sandstone, that had little color. Lately, our new area is giving up more color (red and yellow) on the outside of the wood, but not necessarily throughout the agate cross-section. The pictures I am sharing today are 5-8" long specimens, but I don't even brother to pickup anything less than 12'" anymore unless the center agate has promise of color. Yes, some pieces require digging, but for the most part, are surface finds on a hillside. I am guessing the movement of dirt and rock from erosion breaks up the larger petrified logs, and the pieces are washed down slope. This is typical 6" long specimen that is just lying around. Interesting 8" long specimen with grain or bark and knot 7" long specimen showing some red and bark These cut pieces show a nice agate cross-section, and with some imagination growth rings. One shows more color, but the black, gray and white are the primary agate colors typically found. Silver dollar thrown in for size reference

Nice chunk of Hampton Butte. It was sitting on my deck railing and being over looked!

Sometimes the slabs are a bit light for bookends. This works real good.

This not another photo of petrified wood but it does go along with the topic. Found this hole a few years ago at stinking water. Someone must have been real motivated to get some petrified wood. No, I did not go down the latter.

Was doing a bit of trying to get photo room organized and found this and had to stop and take a picture. Sometimes the small pieces are worth picking up.
