Word on the street is that much good grade lapis has been damaged by the innumerable concussions that several decades of social turmoil have inflicted on the Afgan countryside (including is geology. Glad yours was fracture free. It appears to have a bit of pyrite in it - that gold fleck may beg for a gold setting (or not?) Enjoy. Tom

Tom Or maybe mining with explosives, which seem to be abundant there. Gunpowder from munitions or TNT is not a good choice for hard rock mining, black powder would be wiser but may be difficult to obtain in the ME.

Good work, KD. Beautiful cabs. I love cutting Lapis. It's beautiful stone with lots of history, and while grinding it colors water in that beautiful blue.
