Picked up a pretty pear-shaped cab (1.125 X .625 X .25 inches) at the swap meet yesterday. Was going to post this yesterday afternoon, but Flickr had other ideas...
When I first saw it, I thought, "it couldn't be." But the more I looked at it, I started thinking it is
I also have some pics taken of items I bought a couple weeks ago that I've not had time to post. Will have to get them later. I'm especially wanting input on a rock that looks like a Keokuk geode that has been marinating in jamesp 's red GA clay, lol. But don't have time right now, will have to get those pics up tomorrow.
So, without further ado, here's the tease on the cab. What do you think it is?
A little funky on the cabbing job, no sharply defined (like I would do) girdle.
Comes to a pretty sharp point at the apex.
I bought this from one of the regular sellers there, he buys storage lockers and estates, and resells stuff.
He was asking $5 for it. I did not dicker on the price. If it is what I think it is, it was a really sweet deal. If it is not, then I got a colorful cab for $5.
Opinions wanted!! Thank you in advance.

Victoria stone or Bowlerite. Lynn rockpickerforever bowlerite urethane will be soft. Push a pin into it. Not a frigging bowling ball, lol. Definitely not urethane.
It is super hard and shiny like a polished agate. If you tap it to your teeth, it clicks, like a rock would. Or a piece of glass? I can't rule that out, but it looks like pictures of Imori stone I have seen. And the color seems to be something the Imori stone comes in.
Will have to show you, Scott. I have never, ever seen a piece in person, or held it in my hand. Keeping fingers crossed!

Got you some victoria stone do you? Maybe... What else could it be? I'm as close to 100% certain as can be. What keeps you from claiming it? You go girl!

Tagging Roger into the ring... he's the only human I know who has held the real thing in his hands. This shore does look like it to me though.

on a slightly related topic I stumbled upon a vendor selling Fischer stone at the Newark gem show two weekends ago. Fascinating stuff - I bought one cabochon-sized piece to try and see what I could do with it.

A lot of the manmade stones are very pretty! I have some Fischer stones with the dots in them. They are waiting their turn ...
