You know what the first thing that popped into my mind?
Sagenitic gem silica. Don't even know if that is possible.
Then I thought mid grade synthetic opal.

rockpickerforever Jean, you guys have a rock show at which a geologist has one of the handheld x-ray fluorescence spectrometers. If it hasn't already passed having him analyze would be helpful. Two local club shows coming up next month: Fri, Sat and Sun, April 8–10 VISTA, CA – Vista Gem & Mineral Society Tailgate April 23 - 24: ESCONDIDO, CA: Palomar Gem & Mineral Club Should be someone at either one that can take a look at it. The first show listed in Vista is a lot of fun, it is a tailgate show. I met Fish (Dan) and Paul Shiroma and his family there a couple years ago.
