I have a Lortone 3A-NA one pounder tumbler..... It was Dad's.... Having a problem with it lately...It keeps stopping during the tumbling process, yes I keep it cleaned and oiled..I even took some rocks out of it to lessen the weigh,... still doing it...The rollers are working properly, plastic bearings seem to be fine.....New belt too... Any ideas?

Sounds like you covered the bases except for the motor. Those little motors do give out from time to time. I have replaced two in my 33B tumblers and one in a 3A.
With the cover off turn it on and grab the moving shaft. When you stop the shaft is the motor still turning but belt slipping or does the motor shaft stop turning before the belt gets a chance to slip.

Is the motor stopping or the barrel just quits turning?

You could try putting it on a slight slant to see if the motor bearings are hanging up. Motor bearings get worn and can bind when something is pushing or pulling down the shaft like a slightly crooked alignment. Get a flat piece of metal and lightly push on the motor pulley pushing the shaft into and way from the motor and see if it binds when running. does it look like this ? This design is notorious for misbehaving.

Is the motor stopping or the barrel just quits turning? The barrel just quits rotating.......Motor and rolling still moving.. When I touch the cover plate of the motor area, its hotter than hell-never noticed that before,so that is telling me the motor is over working itself... Probably time to change the motor out-I see they are going for around $40.00 on EBY.. I can grab the motor area on the 45C and its bearable to the touch.....

Chuck As of lately that area is to dang hot to touch anything,I'm thinking the bearing and (or) motor is getting overworked and (or) worn out...

It's my Dads tumbler I inherited when he died-would like to keep it going one way or the other..So I can pass it down to my grandkids.. It's in 99% great shape, always clean, paint original and no leaks...Still has all the stickers on it...Olive green in color (Old style) from years ago...

Tumbler motors get hot! May be something simple, worth trying anyway -
You said that it's a new belt, but can you clean the belt to make sure there isn't oil on it which could cause it to slip? I use Q-Tips to clean my Thumler's belts while the unit is running. Amazing the black oily mess that can come off one. I've had tumblers stop rotating simply due to a dirty belt.

Is the motor stopping or the barrel just quits turning? The barrel just quits rotating.......Motor and rolling still moving.. If the motor and driven shaft are both turning but the barrel is not rolling it could be the driven shaft or barrel need some traction. You could try putting some rubber bands around the barrel to test that. The other reason would be the bushings on the non driven roller being gummed up or faulty. I take the roller shaft out and clean it and even steel wool or lightly sand the portion that goes into the bushing then re-oil and re-assemble. Chuck

Sometimes I have to take a piece of sandpaper and and roughen up the roller as its turning with barrel off. Also have to rough up the barrel sometimes as they get slick and no traction. This is on my 12lb barrels, don't know about the small one.Same principle should apply!

I cant tell from your description.
The barrell has stopped.
Is the roller shaft still spinning?
If not, is the pulley on the shaft spinning?
If not, is the belt spinning?
This is your drive train. Where is the failure?

Ok took it all apart, everything! Field stripped it on a towel, military style! Cleaned everything from top to bottom and in between! Even run emery cloth on the parts, that were explained to me.. (caps)... Ran the barrel on it without the cover on,come to the conclusion-the motor is worn out!!! So will order a new motor for it.......I know it's a little guy,but I have my reasons to keep it going.... Thanks all for the help....Learned a few things along the way today...LOL Thumbs up

I would guess the barrel is very hard rubber now after sitting for years.Might need heavy scuffing. At least that's what happened to me with a 45c.
