This is some of what I've been working on - I got new wheels (yahoo!) and managed to knock out around 50 cabs this week. It sounds impressive but all of them were shaped and ready for polish already - I didn't do any rough grinding. Many were almost done but sitting waiting for new wheels due to nagging scratches. This is 36 of the best of the bunch from last week and this week. It's a rainy Saturday - and I'm letting my wrists and fingers take a break from rocks for a few days (which means I'm bored) so I'll list the cabs by rows at the bottom. Row 1 - Dryhead agate, Saddle Mtn picture wood, Carey plume, Crazylace Row 2 - Black Rock desert thunderegg, Colla wood, Morgan Hill, Bruneau Row 3 - Needles Blue, "wildflower" (unknown) rhyolite, Tidgilite worm-track, Amethyst Sage Row 4 - Richardson's ranch, Needles Blue, Golden picture jasper (central NV), Ohio Flint (@shotgunner) Row 5 - Richardson's ranch, Leopardskin, Amethyst Sage, Prudent Man Row 6 - Dino Bone, Carey plume, blue Biggs, Regency Rose GYP Row 7 - unknown wood, Crazylace, dino bone, Linda Marie Row 8 - Nipomo plume marcasite, septarian nodule, Howardite (double sided), McDermitt Purple Cow Row 9 - Woodward ranch, McDermitt Purple Cow, leopardskin, Carey plume Thanks for looking!

Great collection. The howardite looks like something you would have worn back in the 60s.

Those are ok, I guess. HA! HA! Just kidding! Of course, you have the best material, but the cabs are all top notch, too. I'm so glad to see your posts. It gives me something to strive for.

What height do you generally work with? About 40 to 45 mm?

I never measure ... the only way I know what size I've created is when I'm finished posting the last photo where I put it on a measuring scale. That dryhead was 55mm x 35mm. When they get that big I list them as a "collector specimen" which it was.

For scale reference that clear square acrylic rod in my photos is a half inch.

Absolutely amazing cabs, Tommy. Needles Blue is a new one on me, but a new favorite. What's the composition of those? Gem Silica with pyrite?

Very nice group of cabs! The fourth cab in the first row with those broad pink bands between the fortification bands reminds me a lot like one of the Crazy Lace Agates that was discovered and mined by Victor Salgado, and was marketed as Victor Lace/Victor's Lace Agate back in the 1960s and early 70s. Love it and the Saddle Mtn Picture wood, the Carey Plume cabs, and the Amethyst Sage!
Also kudos on the great photography! I've found the hard way that getting such good quality photos of cabs isn't an easy thing to do and still struggle with that. If I may ask what type of camera and lens are you using?

Absolutely amazing cabs, Tommy. Needles Blue is a new one on me, but a new favorite. What's the composition of those? Gem Silica with pyrite? They call the blue gem silica and it definitely has the hardness to match. I did not notice any pyrite in the pieces I've worked with. Thankfully the matrix of which I do not know the composition is very hard as well so only a little bit of undercutting occurs. The final piece looks really great at an angle with the matrix taking a satin shine while the gemmy silica just sparkles.

Thanks for the feedback Larry. These were all shot with my new Samsung Galaxy S7 phone. Yes it's been a lot of trial and error for me on picture taking - I look back at some of my earlier photos and they look REALLY bad haha.

Beautiful! They're all special, but some of them are real eye magnets. Great that you listed the stones' names.

That's amazing that those photos were taken with a camera phone? They look better than what I've been getting with my DSLR camera with a macro lens. But that is probably my fault. For some reason I still struggle with photography. Larry C.

I think you posted a picture of it once. Wasn't it just an led flashlight? If you only knew what some of us go through to get pictures half as good! You make everything look so easy. Come to think of it.... I have an led photo bulb, maybe I should try it.
