My selection was based on other numbers that had previously been guessed. Even if one knew the exact route many of us like to explore places along the way. I definitely would have liked to have won but have been told to cut what I have by my sweet wife.

Just kidding there, Victor. Just thought it funny that so many of us never even saw those little slips, lol. I did not even check to see what anyone had guessed, until I had posted mine. Then decided I better go back and make sure I wasn't duplicating anyone else's guess.
But I did have a good feeling when I saw that I had picked close to your number, given your track record.
Your wife sounds like a smart woman.

The prize box from Diane arrived late yesterday afternoon. Yippee! Some pretty cool stuff! Still have to give the rocks a good scrub before I can really appreciate them, but just used a squirt bottle and took some quick and dirty photos.
I tried to get these pics up early this morning, but my tablet was having none of it!
Double boxed, arrived in tip-top shape! (Although my mailman did complain that it was heavy, lol.)
Sprayed down.
Not surer what this one is... other than pretty!
Back side
Chicken Track jasper
Purple cow, I think
Unknown 1
Unknown 2
Larsonite, or Gary Green
Unknown 3
Unknown 4
Unknown 5
Obsidians
Grey
Blue! This one is real purdy! Never seen it like this before.
Pet / agatized wood
Back side
If anybody would help me out with the ID of the unknowns, I'd much appreciate it!
Thanks again to Diane for the game and also all the people that contributed to the prize box!

I have been out and about since the McDermitt trip so this is a little late but better late than never right? This contest is for anyone on the board who didn't get to go to McDermitt, NV this year. I have a MFRB of various types of rocks collected in McDermitt, including Larsonite (Gary green), Purple Cow, petrified wood, agate, and a thunderegg among other assorted rocks. I asked other RTH members who were there to contribute so we could have a contest box. Thank you to catmandewe nowyo Tommy roy free2rockhound for contributing to the box. We figured that Russ (nowyo) drove the farthest to get to McDermitt so the contest is to guess how many miles he estimates that he drove to get there. This isn't an exact science since he tends to wander but we have a number that sounds about right. One guess per forum member, contest ends Friday (June 17. 2016) 8pm Arizona time, winner is the person who guesses the closest to the actual number or the exact number. Good luck! 746

Is the blue from the trip? Looks like goldstone. Nice box of goodies!! Thank you, Scott. I still have to clean them, will get some better pics of the blue one. Pretty sure it is obsidian - fractures like it - not goldstone. It came in the box, so assuming it was from McDermitt? Maybe Diane drocknut could elucidate me?
I have a small piece of blue goldstone, will take a pic of that so you can compare the two. About the same color of blue, but none of the sparkles.

A few pics of the unknown *blue* rock. Diane only told me she "tried to put in rocks from all the known collecting areas there." Sorry, Diane, no help! Soooo, maybe someone else that added to the box knows? catmandewe nowyo Tommy roy free2rockhound ??
Size, less than 2.5 inches. Color, dark blue. No sparkles.
Sorry, picture sucks...
This one, too.... But see the conchoidal fracture?
Bumpy and crusty edge on one side, like some obsidian I have.
Has a few air bubbles, so maybe it is glass? Man made, or natural?
And here is the small chip of sparkly blue goldstone I have
Okay, you tell me. Any suggestions?
Thanks! Jean

I'm off camping so didn't see this til now. The first rock you showed rockpickerforever is also Larsonite there are several different deposits in that area with green being the more well known. The other green rock I believe is Sarena Green from near purple cow area. The agate is SJ Orange agate and I believe I put in a piece of saginite so that might be what one of the unknowns is. The blue rock I'm not sure what it is. Like Roy said if it came from Tony's truck it's hard to say what it is...lol. The obsidian, except for the gray one was found in the mcdermitt area. The gray is from Davis Creek and I forgot I put a piece of that in there...lol.

The blue looks to me like a high quality dumortierite....better than what we see out at Indian Pass...
Just a guess...

The blue looks to me like a high quality dumortierite....better than what we see out at Indian Pass... Just a guess... Craig Craig, it is way too glassy for dumortierite. The best chunk I ever found out at Indian Pass was in the road, had just been rolled out of its nest and exposed by a road scraper. Nice color, and hard, but not glassy. Need to make a trip out there sometime. When it cools off, lol. Maybe late October...
I'm calling Obsidian on the blue stone too.........Nice score Jean!!! Thanks, Mike. Yes, I believe you are right! Might be playing with this one in the next few days as well.

Diane, you sent not one but TWO of the saginite. Now I know what a couple of the rocks I've picked up at estate sales were, and where they came from!
Here's the two that were in the prize box
The next pics from what I already had
Thank you (again!) Diane, and everyone that contributed and played. It was fun!

What makes it sagenite?

Good question orrum. I believe it is the fibery inclusions in the agate that make it sagenite.
